I resisted for years buying an MP3 player, especially the I-Pod, because it seemed expensive and there were problems with the original versions. Broke down and got one after a co-worker whose opinion I trust gave the new nano-3G a good grade. I love it. It was so easy to set up and get running on my Windows XP AMD PC. I had already installed and used I-Tunes so it was up to date. I just plugged it in and go; the ease of setup is amazing. I am going to download the complete manual and get into it, but the startup guide that came with it was enough to get me going and listening to music in a few minutes. I also downloaded the new 1.1 level of software and let it install that, no problem. The sound quality is not awesome but very good. If there is one rub that I have the controls are a bit erratic, but hopefully that is just a learning curve issue, and so far not enough of a distraction to lessen my opinion (for what it is worth) of a very fine product.Customer Review: A Great Device

I own the 2nd generation nano and my wife wanted one so I bought her the newest verion. For some reason the second generation nano is still for sale at the exact same prices as the third generation ones.
The addition of video is nice, but people who buy a nano instead of a regular ipod really won't care. You won't be watching movies on this thing. The ability to download additional games that are much cooler than what is found on the second generation nano is nice, if you intend to use it for anything other than working out.
This device is bigger than the second generation nano and I am told it doesn't have the tendancy to bend like the longer and narrower second generation nano did, although I have never had that problem with mine.
My biggest fear was using iTunes with two nanos, which has caused me problems in the past. Newer updates have fixed that problem and this is a nice player overall.

I purchased the 4 GB version for my Wife. She loved it! It's very simple to operate. For the average user 4 GB is plenty of room for all your favorite songs. Based on her usage so far I think it will easily hold 750-800 songs. However if you download video then it will use the memory much faster.

Unit has problem of freezing up from time to time. This problem can be quickly resolved by using the reset option to reboot the device. Simply hold the middle button and the top menu button and your ipod will reset.
Small LCD screen.

After reading some of the horror stories of the Nano, I was not sure if it would be worth the risk. I bought one anyway since my old Rio MP3 player broke.
Let me start with my computer. I already had the most recent version of i-Tunes installed and running fine on a WinXP system. This was the biggest problem I read in other reviews, so maybe I got lucky on this one.
I plugged in the Nano, it detected it right away, found an update that was rather long (55 megs) which took over 15 minutes on my slow DSL connection. No problems installing the update and I was syncing it in no time. The sound is good. I like the "lock" feature so you don't change the settings while it is in your pocket. I didn't use the included ear plugs because I have another set that loops over my ears and stays in position better.
Only time will tell if it lasts, but so far so good.

Both the 4 GB & the 8 GB Ipod Nano are a great ipods for the first timer! They're fun & easy to use and don't come with an overwhelming about of GB space for someone just developing their music selection.
The Ipod Nano is ideal for travel because the size is perfect to tuck away into an arm pocket and whip out to watch your own movie! The clarity of the screen is stellar! Dynamite for photos & podcasts!
Buy it , you'll LOVE it! You'll also dig the classy colors.
