Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple USB Keyboard - White

Customer Review: Great keyboard, versatile, but odd spacing
Summary: 4 Stars

Compared to other keyboards in the price range, this Apple model is rather nice. I have Windows machines and Macs and use this keyboard with both. I like the built-in hub and the firm keys. The key spacing is a little different though. It's something you'll need to get used to if you're used to more traditional pc keyboards. The keys have a nice firm spring to them, and the unit itself has generous rubber feet and a satisfying heft. If you're considering this for your PC, keep in mind that the Windows key is the same as the Command key, and that the control, Command key and alt keys are in a different place than found on a pc keyboard.

If you have an older Mac and are not running 10.2, don't fear. I imagine the 10.2 requirement is just for the volume up, down, mute and eject keys. I've used this keyboard with a iMac and a B&W G3 under 10.1 and 9.0.4.

Customer Review: Stylish
Summary: 4 Stars

I am using this keyboard with my Win XP PC and it works perfectly. It fortunately came with a USB extension cord. It is quite stylish but this inadvertently makes my Logitech mouse and Viewsonic monitor look sadly ancient. My only real complaint would be that it isn't equipped with a pair of feet to increase the keyboard angle.

Compared with a decent Microsoft PC keyboard, I noticed that on the Apple keyboard (1) the distance between the surfaces of two adjacent keys is shorter, (2) the surface of each key is flatter, and (3) the height difference between an unpressed and pressed key seems smaller. This gives the keyboard a softer/fuzzier feel that some people might not like or might need a little time to adjust to.

Customer Review: Pretty good keyboard
Summary: 4 Stars

The keyboard that came with my current Mac wore out after about 2 years. The keys started sticking unless they were depressed exactly straight down. I replaced it with the keyboard from my G4 which worked fine for about a year and then those keys also began sticking. I hate the design of the current Mac keyboard (too flat and doesn't feel right), so I bought this one - which is the older keyboard. The keys are crisp and don't stick. It's quite nice now, but I expect it to start having problems after 2 years. In general, it's a good keyboard, it just doesn't last anywhere nearly as long as I'd like. I'm a programmer and use it pretty much every day for 8-12 hours, so your mileage may vary.

Customer Review: Not Bad
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this keyboard for Mac because I had bad luck with a wireless Microsoft keyboard. By the way I plugged this into my parents' PC for the heck of it and it works on that too. Okay, I digress. This is a great keyboard. I likw rhw extra USB ports. I usually plug my mouse into one of them. Apple has had keyboards with mouse plug-ins for the longest time. I don't know why other companies haven't copied this neat innovation. It's nicer typing my papers on this keyboard than the laptop one. My one complaint is, that since it's so white one can see all the dust on it. On the plus side with another keyboard you would be unaware of the dust and not clean it.

Customer Review: works on a PC too - awesome!
Summary: 4 Stars

for all those who don't like the look of today's PC keyboards there's a solution: just use the sleek, stylish apple keyboard instead. i'm running it from my win2k PC and it works flawlessly. the 'apple'-key replaces the 'windows'-key on a 'real' PC-keyboard, aside of that, it's like any other keyboard.

if you have login enabled you might want to leave your old keyboard connected to enter the password the first time you turn your PC on with the new keyboard plugged in. windows won't recognize the apple keyboard until after you logged in. this is only required once.
