Some people are obviously having problems with Time Capsule, but I can report that it works as advertised for me. It seems that if you have a complicated wireless setup, Time Capsule may not be for you. For me it works as advertised. I have my desktop connected to it by ethernet and my wife's MacBook connected via wireless. Backups occur every hour and that's about it.
The one piece of advice I can offer is to use an ethernet connection for the first backup. Wireless is too slow. However, after that wireless backups are smooth. I forget that it is even there until I need to use Time Machine.

I replaced my old wireless router with the Apple Time Capsule. Installation and setup was easy and straightforward. I had everything up and running in about 30 minutes. We have a PC desktop and Mac laptop which both work seamlessly with the time capsule. At first look the time capsule appears expensive, but remember that it includes a 500GB backup drive which will automatically backup and sync with the Mac Time Machine. You can also Drag and Drop from the PC or use Drive image software and copy an image onto the drive. The wireless modem is extremely fast and covers all three floors of my house.Customer Review: Amazingly Simple

I bought the Time Capsule with a bit of trepidation because I'd never set up a network before, wireless or otherwise. When I went through the AirPort Utility, I couldn't get online because the router wasn't recognizing my internet connection.
But all it took was one search of the database at apple.com and I found a step-by-step guide to installation of Comcast cable modems onto an AirPort router (which is the guts of the Time Capsule), and after I followed the directions VOILA!! I'm online!!
Once again Apple JUST WORKS.

It's strange that wireless has become so ubiquitous that one would by a router like this and not use the wireless capabilities at all. But that is exactly what we've done.
We have 16 of these Time Capsules acting solely as remote backup drives. We've turned off all wireless and router capabilities. Each machine has a static ip address and we connect to it for our Time Machine backups.
Overall, the hardware has been magnificent and the "Airport Utility" makes it quite easy to configure the device.

I've always viewed backing up data as necessary, but a big pain in the neck--especially with a laptop. Prior to Time Machine, backing up my drive necessitated physically connecting my computer to a backup drive, turning off power management and leaving the computer to copy everything overnight. With this device, the biggest pain was the first backup--subsequent to that, I don't need to fiddle with even thinking about backing up--the computer does it for me! Once again, Apple reinvents a better wheel.
