Apple TV (Take 2 software) and iTunes Rentals are just fantastic. I live in China most of the year and can suddenly enjoy legal content more conveniently and just slightly more expensive than pirated DVDs. This is a big deal. Plus I love how it auto downloads the newest episodes of The Daily Show for just 9.99$ every 16 episodes. Now, if Apple wasn't restricting geographic access by requiring US credit cards, this would put a huge dent into piracy. But what's wrong with you MPAA? You want to sue your customers instead of finding a good solution to getting them what they want? Ridiculously stupid. Anyway, the Apple TV is fast, convenient, let's me have all my photos, music, videos, TV episodes, movies all in one simple place with great seamless integration with my computer. If you like watching TV and movies only on your own time this is your solution.Customer Review: Excellent product!!!!

I did a thorough job or researching the Apple TV before I purchased the 160 GB model. I needed to get my music collection from my iTunes collection in our home office to our home theater on the lower level. The Apple TV did exactly what I needed it to do. The photos of our grandchildren and the ability to download the episodes of television shows we missed were a bonus. Admittedly the video is still a little soft but it has improved since Apple TV was introduced and I have faith in Apple to continue to improved on the video content from the iTunes store. I project onto a 123" screen and the PQ is about on par with std. definition broadcast quality albeit in widescreen format.
The video will not replace DVD yet but if Apple gets it close to hi def quality this will be the content-on-demand platform we have all been waiting for.

I've had an apple tv for about 5 months and I think I've actually sold a few to friends and it's not for the reasons you might think. Many reviewers have focused on movie rentals, but I bought this to be able to share my photos and home videos with family and friends. I know it could be called a glorified ipod, but it quietly gives me access to the home movies and family photos that have sequestered on my hard drive. Instead of gathering around the computer to see the latest...we just access the apple tv. It is also as another reviewer mentioned, a great way to access your music collection. By the way I have rented movies and played purchased movies...it works great. For me, 720p is fine...you won't find anything better than 720p on cable or broadcast HD. The thing with the Apple TV is that is first and foremost an Itunes/Ipod accessory.
If you have a large Itunes collection.
If you want to listen to your music/view Itunes content on your home theater rig.
If you have an HDTV suitable for photos / movie rentals.
If the idea of vast well indexed libraries of podcasts (both video/audio) appeals to you.
If a well catalogued comprehensive assortment of internet radio appeals to you.
Then Apple TV is a great addition.
The latest upgrade 3.01 with internet radio and a simple but attractive menu structure is the greatest. Everything you could want is graphically accessable in the first or second layer of the menu. I love it.

I use iTunes, iPhoto and this device works like a charm. I have 4 other TV's where I wanted access to my music and photos from my Mac, and this is the perfect device for me. I understand the image is not a true 1080p, but on my Sony XBR4 and my LCD Samsung LN-3241D, I cannot tell the difference that the image is not 1080p. The unit runs hot so I have it on a metal cooling pad for laptops and turn it off from the power strip surge protector. I chose the appleTV over the vudu box because I have all my media on my Mac and it works flawlessly. If I would have purchased the AppleTv before Tivo I probably wouldn't have purchased my TIVO and would not watch any TV at all. Remember you can run Boxee on it thru a hack.
