I rent most of my movies from Time Warner Cable. They often will not download smoothly, and in some cases will not load at all.
Apple TV downloads before playing, the results are spectacular, and the rentals are $2 less than Time Warner, and are available in high def.
There are far more movie selections than available on Time Warner. I wish there was a larger catalog of foreign films, however it does seem to be growing since the movies are shared with the iPhone, and iTouch.
Very easy to set up, and use, the controller is simple and elegant.

Since Apple TV's software update (2) this thing is finally delivering. I have left my computer and can now enjoy my living room. i am not going to bore you with specs and details. HD shows although not blu ray look pretty darn good at 720p.
Purchase songs from itunes, surf youtube, watch your pictures as slideshows watch movies rent movies (most with Dolby 5.1). I have a mac mini so I don't know about the experience using it with XP but I high;y recommend it. By the way I am using Component cables and not HDMI because I couldnt see the difference with a 42 inch TV.

'AppleTV has allowed me to cancel my satellite/cable TV. I have the ability to buy my favorite TV shows and rent or buy movies right from my Television set. I have an off-air antenna to receive all the major networks in HD for free. I'm saving a ton of money and I control what I want to pay for, it's a beautiful thing. 'AppleTV also allows you to buy and play music/music videos right from your TV. You have access to YouTube videos and podcasts. It works great! I would recommend you spend a $100 more for the 160GB version. 40GB disappears fast when it comes to video.Customer Review: Great at what it does!

I had been holding off purchasing the Apple TV, wanted it do do more, but ended up diving in. Thinking it would be at least a year before a major update and I really didn't want to wait that long to experience the product.
Hooked it up to my TV using a HDMI connection, looks great and sounds great. For purchases or ripped DVD's it is the way to go. And now there are 3rd party apps that can be loaded that give the unit streaming ability outside of iTunes.
Only 1 minor grip, no volume control from the unit, so I still have to use the TV remote.

We have relieved ourselves of the PC ball and chain by switching entirely to Macs. The addition of an Apple TV, along with an EyeTV, has enhanced our viewing pleasure. This includes all the standard stuff, like movies on demand, along with the ability to bring in our old home movies and watch them on demand from the comfort of our family room. This is definitely a great product with a super price.
