Customer Review: Stunning Simplicity

Simplicity at its best. This little box is simple to connect and get up and running over a wireless network and sync up with iTunes. Once connected this amazing device delivers in a stunning fashion. Most of the media content I "consume" comes from the internet (podcasts, YouTube, Flickr, etc). so imagine the feeling of being able to enjoy this from the living room rather than being tethered to a computer.
Of course you have access to your iTunes library (music, movies, video, podcasts, etc.) and the sweet thing is that you're not limited to the content of a single computer. You can access the content of multiple computers - how cool is that!
A nice feature is being able to get media without having to have a computer on, such as Flickr, YouTube, and Podcasts. Nice!
I've already decided to get a 2nd Apple TV, this time the 160gb model.
My world changed when I hooked this device up and I'm not going back.

You can buy and rent movies from the iTune store. I'd do this through the computer and port over what I wanted to watch on the Apple TV.

I just had my Apple TV delivered to me via FedEx, and in less than 20 minutes I was watching and listening toeverything I have on my iMac... right on my t.v.!!! Everything that Apple has said about this little silver box is 100% true! I haven't had any hiccups or problems with this amazing little invention. I do not know how easy this set up would be with a non-Apple machine (is there really such a machine? HA) but if you have an Apple, and a wireless network (again, mine is an Apple Extreme with N speed) it couldn't be easier. I have about 200 movies in my iTunes library, and as soon as it is turned on, Apple TV automatically sees all the files, and I can play any of my movies. Works the same with your music or your photos or your television shows. I prefer to wirelessly have access to everything, but you can sync to have it on the Apple TV. I highly recommend this for anyone who is an Apple fan, a movie buff, a music lover... and you have a nice a/v set up in your main TV room. Works like a charm! Apple TV:
Apple TV has been a great addition to my entertainment arsenal. The issue is that the HD space is limited. I had more music and movies than Apple TV HD space. What did I do? I discovered that streaming (not copying to Apple TV HD) my Itunes library has enabled me to stream endless amounts of data. I ended up purchasing an external HD of 1TB and am able to stream countless movies and music data over my wireless network. I use my computer memory instead of my Apple TV space. I would highly recommend going this route and getting the smaller Apple TV version if you are trying to save some cash. The only thing I have stored on my Apple TV is my pictures. I would only recommend doing this if you have high-speed internet and an adequate computer to handle the extra load. I have thoroughly enjoyed my Apple TV and have found several still old time photos and use them in my slideshows when people are over. High-Def Still photos are great conversation starters and create a unique visual appeal to all those gazing upon a HDTV.

Our new Apple TV only took a few minutes to set up. It connected wirelessly to our MacBook Pro, iMac, and PC very easily. At first glance, you will find the user interface simple and polished. Navigation flows easily... a child can do it. The screensavers use album art or photos to float across your screen... it looks very cool! Music, music videos, TV shows, podcasts, movies, and family photos are all at your command with a simple little remote with only a few buttons. The device either downloads or streams content from iTunes without any pausing or freezing, and we are using a wireless g network. This is a top quality device that just works.
This new device and Apple's other great products show that Apple is very much in tune with what consumers want out of their tech gear. Our family switched from PC to Mac a few months ago and we've never looked back.
Our whole family loves this new little device and the way it makes our iTunes content come alive!

I give it 5 stars because I couldn't ding it down to 4.5. It is a quality Apple product--i.e. works smoothly and the interface is beautiful. It actually runs hot--not that this matters, really. I could complain about the lack of record capability, but I use my computer to obtain, store, and organize most media now. This is as it should be, I suppose. As the device runs OS X and you can hack it to do additional things... Also, Apple periodically unleashes more functionality by pushing software updates to it. (It does YouTube now. I see Apple is under enormous pressure to placate large media owners/studios, wish to deny us that final bit of freedom to record broadcast tv.) So I won't get rid of my TiVo just yet, but seeing Apple advancing the field makes me want to.
