Customer Review: Don't trust a NON-OEM Battery for your MacBook Pro! Buy this One!

I have a 28 month old MacBook Pro whose battery just started to lose the ability to charge and was going bad. I had about 160 cycles on it so I knew it was defective in some way. I had read about this problem on Mac forums and knew that the store that I bought it at had a 1-time battery replacement option.
Before I discovered that I was covered for the replacement from this "other store", I bought the OEM battery here off of Amazon and it came in typical Apple packaging which is always aesthetically pleasing. Before ever opening the OEM battery, I took advantage of my "free replacement". Let me tell you ... not a good experience.
If you examine your OEM battery, you will see that it is made of the same aluminum exterior that your MacBook is made of. When I received a NON-OEM replacement, this was completely plastic. Well, ok ... I was disappointed but if it was going to save me the money, I was going to use it. So I did. Within 3 days the NON-OEM "plastic" battery started to reboot my computer and cause havoc. I had it returned and the funds paid for my OEM battery were refunded by the "other store". The new OEM battery is working like a charm and whatever the problem was with the original battery that came with my MacBook Pro appears to be resolved.
I use a little application with my Mac which is awesome called coconutBattery v2.6.5. You can Google to find it. This will tell you your battery life, the age of your Mac, and the battery cycles. This is just such useful information to have.
In sum, do not settle for a NON-OEM battery when it comes to Mac. Apple items are persnickety and they like to use their own stuff. With my PC's, I have never had a problem replacing batteries with fakes (so to speak). For my MacBook Pro ... nothing but the real thing.
BTW, when you receive this beauty, you will discover it has that great aluminum backing just like the one that came with your original purchase. SWEET and very aesthetically pleasing.

UPDATE: 10/19/10 - 252 battery loadcycles and at 32% capacity ... I just ordered a new Apple battery today. In essence, I got 13 months use out of the battery and I have to say, I am a heavy computer user. I'll say it again, don't be tempted by a non-Apple version of this battery. It won't work near as well and you risk damaging your expensive Mac. With PC's in the past I never thought twice about buying non-OEM and they seemed to work fine. I have not had the same experience with Mac and my PC laptops have never outlasted my Macs. Unfortunately, our model (2007 MacBookPro) is tough on batteries and none are super great. I guess it's something we have to deal with.
Looking forward to the new battery and will happily retire the one I bought in 2009 for the original review.
