Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty MouseCustomer Review: Joined the Mac keyboard in the trash Summary: 5 Stars
1. No mouse should cost $70
2. If it does it better be pretty darn special
The Apple Bluetooth Wireless Mighty Mouse would be a great mouse at $30. I had a Logitech trackwheel mouse that worked pretty good with my Mac Mini on a 37" LCD from across the room. Thats why I bought the Logitech, it works over the width of a typical room pretty well, and I didn't need to use some sort of mousepad while sitting on the couch. Only problem with it was all of the other computers I use have normal mice, so I had to think a different way every time I used the trackball. It finally died a sudden death and I thought I would take the chance on this offering from Apple. I have been very pleased with my Mac Bluetooth keyboard, I've had it for almost a year on the orginal batteries and it works flawlessly from anywhere in the room, as does the Mighty Mouse. It's itsy bitsy tiny trackball is very precise and easy to control, it sort of defies logic. The very best thing is I can mouse along on the arm of my leather chair, or my pant leg, or my bare leg, or any surface I can find and it works perfectly. No mouse I have ever used has been able to do that. I've only had it for a day and will probably update this review in the future, but this seems to be everything a mouse could be. Negatives? Yes. The right mouse button seems to be quirky. I think its supposed to be that way, most Mac'ers won't use it anyway, but it is quickly turning me into a single button user (after many years of depending on the second button on my PC). I just have to learn the trick I guess. The other things has to do with using the trackball as a button. I will probably turn that feature off, but I wish I didn't have to. I like what it does, except it is too sensitive. It would be nice if that button had a sensitivity control. I think the side buttons are poorly placed and difficult to click, but I doubt if I will really use them. This is a product that is so ideal for those of us who have a Mac connected to our large-screen TVs in the living room that it's not even funny. For that application it may be the perfect mouse in the world. Would I use it on my desktop computer? Probably not, I don't see what spending $70 for it would give me. Bottom line: Nice product at a price far higher than it should be. This thing probably costs Apple about $2 to build and market.
UPDATE:
I ended my review with the comment that it probably cost Apple $2 to build this mouse. After about a year I honestly believe that comment. What a frustrating experience, yet another example of Apple-hype and ridiculous claims for a product that seems to be designed to break down. The little trackball became gritty, there's no way it couldn't, and hardly did anything (and there's no way to effectively clean it). The smooth pads on the bottom became so rough you could hardly move the mouse, let alone accurately and the stiff side buttons that everyone hates ended up being totally useless. Why does Apple persist in continuing to destroy their already dreadful reputation? 1.1 stars for this overpriced paperweight.
Customer Review: The greatest wireless mouse around! Summary: 5 Stars
I usually do not write reviews but seeing that this only had four stars I had to jump in to try to boost it up. I am an avid computer user so don't think I am just your everyday instant message who is blown away by the idea of no wires. This mouse is truly outstanding.
Range - The range of this wireless mouse is greater than you will ever need. You wont have to worry about that 3 foot requirement that most other wireless mouses stick to.
Buttons - The way it tells if I am clicking right or left even though its all one piece is awesome. Very nice touch by Apple.
Scroll Wheel - Awesome! Very easy to scroll vertically or horizontally and works as a great button for something of your choosing (I chose it to be a hotkey to my dashboard). You can also use the scroll wheel in conjunction with the command key to zoom in and out.
Side Buttons - They take some getting use to because you have probably never experienced them before but they are a great extra set of buttons. I set mine to the expose feature in Macs. Very, very convenient.
Battery - We have all been there when we are trying to replace two AA batteries in something but can only find one...with the Mighty Mouse, thats all you need! It holds two but it can run on just one! Fun little feature if you ask me.
Re-connectivity - I saw some review that says it takes 30 seconds for it to reconnect when you break the connection by taking your laptop or turn it off. This is completely not true. When turning your computer on again, just turn the mouse on with it and the mouse will be connected before the computer itself is booted up. I have a MBP 2.2Ghz 2GB RAM so my boot up is as fast as anyones but the mouse is still ready by the time the log in screen comes up. Now, when the connection is broken by moving the laptop too far away, then it will have to reconnect. I would say it takes no longer than 7 seconds.
Adjustability - You can adjust this mouse to fit any user. You can adjust how quickly the arrow tracks and how quickly it scrolls. You can also change the double click speed if you want to. You can change the function of any of the buttons. The mouse is amazing.
Remember guys, its made by Apple! You know you are getting something good.
Customer Review: Mighty Mouse - I love you Summary: 5 Stars
The BlueTooth Mighty Mouse is a WONDERFUL improvement over the original Mighty Mouse and clearly, the best bluetooth mouse available ---- a direct comparison to other mouse's available -
PROS:
1. BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL MIGHTY MOUSE --- I liked the original (wired) Mighty Mouse, but many of the buttons were difficult to use --- the scroll wheel had a tight grip and the side buttons were impossible to use --- this new Mighty Mouse has a much better scroll wheel (ball) that is a lot looser and easier to use --- in addition, the side buttons are very functional, in addition to all the other buttons
2. BUTTONS ---- I can't stand mouses like the Logitech ones that are filled with so many buttons, that you basically can't help but to press the wrong button here and there --- the Mighty Mouse has an excellent set of buttons, not too many, and not too little --- best of all, they are all laid out perfectly, with software that let's you decide which button will designate what function --- the best set of buttons and layout available on any mouse!
3. LASER TRACKING ---- one reason I often do not use bluetooth mouses is because the tracking is unstable --- the mouse can't keep in line with movements --- however, I'm very pleased with this Mighty Mouse --- the tracking really does feel like a solid wired mouse, making me believe that Apple really invested a lot of good engineering into making the tracking of this mouse excellent
CONS ---
1. SOFTWARE --- the software is easy to use and setup, however, it doesn't seem to work with OS X Panther (10.3) --- so if you are not using Tiger (10.4) then you may wanna reconsider purchasing this mouse, unless Apple gives software for 10.3, but doesn't seem so?
2. HOCKEY PUCK --- personally, I miss the hockey puck mouse, from the original iMac --- but hey - I think they're more Republicans in Massachusetts than there are hockey puck mouse lovers, within this entire world --- so I guess it's personal preference
overall --- it's a great mouse and the price is reasonable
if you are big on right clicking and scrolling, then don't hesitate to buy it
LOVE AND PEACE TO YOU ALL!!!
Customer Review: Excellent purchase and product Summary: 5 Stars
Owning a Powerbook, the wireless mouse is a great choice when you want to sit with the laptop at a distance. Rather than add to the product description, I will say the craftsmanship and design is second to none. Pairing the mouse to the laptop was seamless and very simple. It could have been done without reading the manual. (Yes, I read it first. It came with the mouse, might as well get my money's worth.)
Mouse operations are extremely smooth. It takes just a little getting used to pressing the unit itself instead of expecting a separate left and right mouse button as the majority of mice operate. Getting a popup menu is as simple as holding the Ctrl key while pressing the mouse.
The track ball moves very smoothly when tracking, and it is great when scrolling a page horizontally or vertically. Another great feature of the trackball is the ability to press the ball and execute a preset command. I set mine to Application Switcher. Works like a charm.
Some people noted the side buttons are hard to press. They are not. It depends on the position of your hand on the mouse when using it. The side buttons do not click as soon as they are touched, to keep them from being accidently activated when using the mouse. They have a bit of a 'restraint' to them, for lack of a better word or term, but they are not in any way hard to press. You are not going to 'bump' into them and perform a function you didn't want. I set mine to Expose, and they work flawlessly. Reset the position of your hand on the mouse and accuston yourself to the best hand position for you to execute the two side buttons.
Other mice use a USB dongle to pair to the computer, this one needs no attachments, and is the only wireless mouse in my estimation you should use with your Apple product.
I love this mouse, and I use it in conjunction with Apple's wireless keyboard. A great conbination!
Customer Review: Mighty Mouse is really the best thing out there! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know what it is about bluetooth technology but no one seems to be paying attention to it. I've had mine for over 9 months now since it came out last summer. I've had reservations because of some of the concerned feedback that I read but after having used it all this time it operates as it should. Battery life is good! A low battery level indicator comes on to let you know it cautions you well in advance. I use nickel metal hydride rechargeable batteries in mine. So I've changed them roughly about 3 times since I've gotten the mouse. Tracking is a no issue. It goes left and right up and down! Its very accurate having to select a pixel is completely a non-issue so for high end graphic work, no problem. Right mouse click? Yeah, its not perfect but as far as I'm concerned its not a nuisance. I right mouse click in Safari when I want an exact meaning of a word using the dictionary, cut, copy and paste right mouse clicks can be challenging at times and then at times it works like a charm. The 2 programmable buttons on the side? I dont' use it, everyone agrees it is just too hard to press those buttons to make it worthwhile. Scrolling up and down and left and right and diagonally works like it ought to. I wouldn't have purchased this mouse without the scroll feature. My rating on the scroll feature is a 10 for smooth. What I'm having a problem with is finding an acceptable bluetooth mouse for my wife who has a Dell running Vista. With Logitech 50% likes and 50% no likes, which half do I want to be? And Targas can't maintain a rating of over 3 stars here on Amazon so that's a no go. One other reviewer said that he bought the mighty mouse for use with his Dell running Vista so we may be going that route since I'm a big fan of this mouse having used it all this while. Make the plunge, the Mighty Mouse is really the best thing out there even at its present price level.
