Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple Airport Express MB321LL/A [NEWEST VERSION]Customer Review: Almost sent it back Summary: 5 Stars
I had problems having the airport utility finding the Airport express. Verizon's help page told me to set the modem to bridge mode. That didn't work either. Had to call Verizon a second time to get the modem reset and get me connected again to the internet .
After that and resetting the Airport Express back to factory default settings I connected the DSL cable from the modem to AE , started the utility and walked right though the set up.
Important to note that you want to set Airport Express in "Bridge Mode" when asked and don't mess with the Verizon 6100 modem . That lets the modem assign IP addresses etc
If you have problems call Verizon and have them walk you through doing a hard reset o the modem.. (keep them on the phone when you do)
I was about ready to give up and return the Airport Express but once the modem was reset it worked perfectly. I had my new wireless network up and running in about 10 minutes.
PS I also set up Apple TV following setting up my Airport Network .. very easy set up.
Customer Review: A great device Summary: 5 Stars
I decided that I wanted to be able to easily stream my iTunes music to our Onkyo SR-606 receiver with minimum fuss.
Setup took less than 5 minutes. I didn't need to use the software that came with the device, I just used the Airport Utility already installed on my Early-2009 Macbook Pro. It found my Airport Express and connected to my existing wireless network (Airport Extreme Base Station). Once connected I hooked the device to my receiver and was streaming music.
On top of that, I have the 'Remote' application from Apple installed on my iPhone and its great that I can walk around my house and choose my music. I'm planning on picking up at least one more of these to extend the music in my house. With the iphone application I can pick and choose which rooms I want to have the music in, just like iTunes on my Mac.
Add to that the Airfoil software available from Rouge Amoba and I can stream Pandora and last.fm over the AE too!
I can't recommend this device enough!
Customer Review: Works great on non-Apple wireless networks Summary: 5 Stars
The Apple AirPort Express works great on a non-Apple network as a way to stream music from iTunes to remote speakers or an audio system. You do NOT have to have an Apple base station for your wireless. I have a Linksys router and Windows, and the set-up was easy. If your current wireless network has security and encripton, as it should, you will need to connect an ethnernet cable directly to the AirPort unit to select the wireless network and enter the keys. (The AirPort Express unit requests and is assigned an IP address by DHCP automatically.) Once you set the keys you can unplug the ethernet cable and use the AirPort express like any wireless remote device. I use it with the free "Remote" app on an iPod Touch which lets me control iTunes from any location reached by the wireless. The Remote app also works with iPhones. Remote and iTunes also let you control which of several speakers, each with its own AirPort Express or hard wired to your computer sound card, gets the streaming audio from iTunes.
Customer Review: Small and Powerful Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the coolest devices I've seen since Tivo. Easy to configure and it just works.
Coolness Reason 1: I needed internet access in my entertainment center for several devices (like tivo, receiver,...) and I was able to hang a 5 port hub of this thing. This allowed me to have several wired devices all have wireless access each with DHCP from the Airport Extreme (or Time Capsule in this case).
Coolness Reason 2: The music side of this thing is great. I have 3 of these around my house and my mac sees each of them and allows me to choose one or all of them to send tunes to. The main one in my entertainment center doubles as a hub and a music provider to the stereo. Again, no hassle. I just works.
I cannot speak to how this works in a non mac environment, but with my mac and Time Capsule it works flawlessly.
Each can be named something meaningful like Living Room or Family Room or Yoda in this case (small and powerful).
Customer Review: Great Device to Enjoy your music and remain in full control. Summary: 5 Stars
I have been thinking to buy this damn thing for a long long time. MacMall had a good deal with Bill-Me-Later. Also I recently set up a brand new Home Theater system. I connected the Airport Express to a wall socket closest to me HT, Connected it to my Onkyo 706 with a Y Analog cable and ran the setup utility. Since I already had a router, I connected router and airport wirelessly. That's it. Setup done !!! Got to iTunes and selected the Airport Express on the bottom as the output and songs started playing. Amazing!! Ok now the best thing - I was having dinner and didn't like the song that was playing. Took my iPhone out and opened "Remote" application and could change my songs on the fly! Now that is what I call a perfect setup.
I am planning to hook it up with an optical Audio cable to my Onkyo. Hope that improves the quality of sound even more. Buy it if you don't have a Computer connected to your main entertainment/Music system. Highly Recommended !!
