Customer Review: Great for music
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this to get music wirelessly from my computer into my bedroom. One of the reviewers on this site had some great advice for getting it setup for windows and it worked without a hitch.

I initially bought it to work with iTunes on my computer and I wanted to control it with the Apple "Remote" software app on my iPhone. That works great, but I was thinking I also wanted to get Rhapsody from my computer to my bedroom and wasn't sure how to do it. I ended up downloading a $25 program called Airfoil that is supposed to work with just about any audio program. I tested it with Rhapsody and it works like a charm.

The main downside is that you can't control Rhapsody with the "remote" software. However, I now have an iPad, so I use logmein to get to the computer and control Rhapsody and Airfoil. It works great!

I should also mention that I bought a mini to optical adapter to get the digital line out to feed a DAC (digital to analog converter) and it works without a hitch. In short, for music it does exactly what I wanted for a very decent price.

Customer Review: Another fantastic Apple product -- It just WORKS!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this product!!

I bought it to connect my ITUNES on my PC via Ethernet cable (in my case)to my stereo system. It works flawlessly!!! I can now also control my ITUNES on my PC with a free Apple application for my IPHONE, called REMOTE. So now I can sit in front of my stereo away from my computer, have my music go over my ethernet cable (home lan) to the stereo and control my ITUNES music with my IPHONE, wirelessly. Is that a kick!!! And the whole thing works FLAWLESSLY!! Thank you Apple.

I loved this device so much that I bought a second one to use while traveling and in a hotel room. I plug it into the room's ethernet jack in the wall and I can now use my laptop wirelessly. I don't have to plug the laptop into the ethernet jack allowing me to use my laptop anywhere in the room.

Only slight disadvantage is that the setup instructions are a little obscure. Once you get it though, it becomes easy. There are excellent instructions also posted in one of these reviews. Do not hesitate to get this device, though.

Customer Review: Windows Vista setup a cinch
Summary: 5 Stars

I had an older Airport Express for four years: it died. The new AX "n" model is great. I use it to link iTunes to my stereo through my wireless network. I have a Vista Home Premium laptop with iTunes. Setup was easy.

The CD that comes with the new model has a setup.exe file that installed the Airport Utility on my laptop. I plugged in the AX, plugged the stereo into it, connected to the laptop via Ethernet and ran the Utility. It detected the AX quickly. The setup options offered were easy to figure. You do have to specify that you will use the AX on wireless, not Ethernet. In my case, I "joined an existing wireless network". I specified the IP address (got that from by router) and selected WPA2-Personal security and entered the password. Done. There are some bells and whistles you can configure as well, but basically, it's easy setup. Not quite Plug and Play, but easy if you have some savvy and read the prompts.

If you want to use AX as a router, it's different. The device is pre-configured for that use, so setup may be even easier.

Customer Review: Simple, compact ... WiFi that pays for itself.
Summary: 5 Stars

Surf the web or check your e-mail from the La-Z-Boy. The Airport Express pays for itself with downloads to your iPhone. In Canada ... my Fido plan allowed 1 GB per month of data downloads. The free Wikipedia app for the iPhone is a 2 GB download.

'Now with blazing 802.11n, the affordable AirPort Express is powerful enough to run a home Wi-Fi network, yet small enough to take on the road.

Wirelessly share an internet connection and USB printer with up to 10 users. Stream your iTunes music library to virtually any room of your home. Create an instant Wi-Fi network on the go. Extend the range of your current Wi-Fi network. Now featuring the speed of 802.11n technology.'

Signal strength: -3 dBm is half ... +3 dBm is twice the signal strength ... so when (iPhone App) WiFi Trak gives you a signal of -30 dBm it is twice the milliwatts of -33 dBm.

+10 dBm is ten times the signal strength. So -30 dBm is ten times stronger than -40 dbm. 0 dBm equals 1 milliwatt.

Tusen Takk!

Customer Review: Easy to set up and great performance
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased the Apple Airport Express to add on to an existing wireless network I had set up in my house. The main reason was to play music through the airtunes to my stereo and to print wireless. The set up was quick and the software is easy to install. I installed the software on my MacBook Pro notebook and connected my Canon printer through the Airport. ITunes immediately recognized the Airport and enabled an option to play music through my main stereo and speakers. The sound is excellent ( I have a very high end receiver and large floor speakers) and I look forward to moving my cds to ITunes and only using my laptop and external drive for playing music. It's great to build a playlist and then set it and go. I've had many guests ask how I was able to play such a large amount of music and never change the cd.
If you want to extend your network or start a new one, the Apple Airport Express is a great tool. Utilizing the latest 80211n technology, the Airport is compact, portable and very fast. Great addition to your Apple computer.
