Customer Review: Quick & Easy solution to many home networking problems
Summary: 5 Stars

I have never used Apple networking products until recently but now I am a complete convert. I used the Apple Airport Express to connect an older Windows PC & laser printer to my existing WLAN. It was so easy that I purchased another Airport Express to connect my Linux workstation to my home network as well rather than deal with Linux drivers for WLAN cards & devices. I just attached each computer via the ethernet cable rather deal with wireless adapters for each computer. Another big plus, I can update the Airport code centrally. I am also sharing a Brother laser printer via the Airport's USB port with each of the different computers on my home WLAN. Airports are very flexible & easy to deploy devices. My only complaint is that the MSRP is too high but they do work as advertised. If I can pick up another Airport for $50, I would keep it in my bag for when I travel to setup a personal WLAN in my hotel room using the hotel's wired ethernet instead of the problematic (..and expensive) WLAN. I am very satisfied with my Airport purchase via Amazon reseller network and would do so again. I have purchased a used Airport from another vendor and it works like a charm. The WLAN extension is great.

Home network : 1 Apple Time Capsule (connected to broadband modem via ethernet cable), 2 Apple Airport Express extending home WLAN to connect 2 Windows XP PCs, 1 MacBook, 1 Brother 2070N laser printer & 1 Ubuntu Linux PC/workstation.

Customer Review: Airport Express + iPod/iPhone = Rival to $999 Sonos System!
Summary: 5 Stars

With the Airport Express, I have a music server experience to die for!

I have an iPhone 3G and my wife owns an iPod Touch. After downloading Apple's free "Remote" application for both i-devices and setting up the Airport Express, we can now use the Airport Express to wirelessly access our computer's music library from the comfort of our living room!

With the "Remote" application, the cover art of the currently playing song shows up on our i-devices, we can choose any of our playlists or search for artists or songs with their virtual keyboard and, naturally, any music we download or rip is instantly available for us to listen to!

What impressed me beyond the smooth, easy, attractive implementation of the Apple system is the price; It's similar to competing Sonos BU150 Multiroom Music System wireless digital music systems which costs up to $999!

Unlike the Sonos system, however, the Apple setup also lets you take your music WITH YOU in your pocket via your iPhone/iPod and use the PDA/phone/game & other application features of the i-devices!

If you already have an iPhone or iPod Touch, or even if you don't and are looking for a way to stream your iTunes music to a room in your house, the i-device/Airport Express combination make an impressive duo to accomplish the task!

Customer Review: Awesome for streaming music!
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought the Airport express only to stream iTunes to my stereo. I haven't tried the wireless printing feature and am not using it as my router. I was a little hesitant to buy it after reading reviews by people that had trouble getting the Airport to work with their PC. Luckily I had very little trouble setting it up. Like another reviewer suggested, I linked my computer and the Airport via ethernet while running the setup program. I did have to run the setup twice (not sure what I did different the second time). It works flawlessly with my Windows 7 based PC and Netgear router--so don't let previous bad reviews detract you!

The Airport will only send your iTunes to your stereo, which unlike some, is something I really love. I've been using the Linksys Wireless Music Bridge (when I could get it to work) and it would send all of the computer sounds to the stereo -- including IM notifications and the annoying commercials that come up when you're tracking football/basketball games. Nice to not have to put up with that anymore! If you do want to hear those commercials, or IM notifcations,or watch YouTube on the computer, you still can. All of that will come through your computer speakers like it normally would.

I'm so happy I came across this. I highly recommend it for anyone who would rather hear their iTunes through their stereo than through their cheap computer speakers!

Customer Review: Amazing! Hours of frustration saved!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I move every few years, and for the last three moves I've tried to set up my wireless network using Linksys and other routers with the new ISP when I move in. I don't know what it is with networking, but it has been consistently a frustrating and awful experience to just get even the most basic Wifi setup working. I'm plenty adept technically -- been using Unix/Linux for 20+ years and program for a living.

Last night I spent two hours trying to get my Linksys WRT54G router working. Just trying to set up a simple new network... no password, nothing fancy, just enough to login from my laptop. Total failure. I don't know what of the hundreds of settings was incorrect, but something was off. I reset all the defaults, read plenty of walkthrus, no success. I installed the open-source DD-WRT firmware and that ended up no better.

I gave up, spent a few bucks on this brilliant Apple Airport Express, plugged it in, and literally within 120 seconds of opening the box, I was done. It was SIMPLE SIMPLE SIMPLE! And it worked! I should have done this years ago!

I'm mostly going to use this as a regular Wifi router. It does more things, like running a printer remotely too, though I don't need that now. Streaming music throughout the house -- I set that up (two minutes), and it worked perfectly.

It's BRILLIANT and it WORKS. Just buy it!!

Customer Review: Such a handy device, for a variety of uses!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had two Airport Express routers for quite some time and love the versatility of this product. One of them I use as a remote AirTunes wireless speaker output for iTunes. (With some 3rd party software, I can actually send any audio from my Mac to the remote speakers).

I also have one that I take with me when I travel. If I'm in a hotel without good wireless Internet, but with good wired access, I simply use the Airport Express to create my own wireless LAN in the hotel room. That way I can connect my laptop and my iPod Touch to the internet through the same connection, have it be secure the way I want it, and have a much stronger signal than most hotels are providing anyway.

I've also used this as a temporary replacement for my Xbox 360 wireless adapter when the Xbox adapter died, since the Airport Express can be used as a wireless client rather than as a router. It can also be used to make any printer a wireless connected printer, or it can be used to extend the range of a wireless network.

So, to sum up:
Portable wireless router
iTunes remote speaker
A wireless NIC, in a pinch
Share a printer
Extend a wireless network's range

It might seem a bit expensive but it has come in so handy so many times in different situations, that it has more than been worth the price paid.
