Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple AirPort Extreme Dual-band Base Station MB763LL/A [OLD VERSION]

Customer Review: Awesome Dual Band Airport Extreme
Summary: 5 Stars

I just upgraded my MB053LL/A, last years Airport extreme with Apple's newest Dual band Airport Extreme, and I have to say I love it. Setup was a breeze just like every Apple product I buy. My network is stronger and faster then it's ever been. I ran Last years Extreme in 802.11n only and bridged the connection to an Airport Express to have 802.11g for our iphone, ipod touch, Wii, and old dell Laptop. I would have weak signal in some areas of the house and even loose connection. Now it's super strong and I have great signal every where in the house, even outside in the back yard where I would never get it. I also have a network drive that seems to work faster on this new extreme.

I would definitively recommend this to anyone who is thinking about upgrading to a 802.11n router. This Router in my eyes is the best Dual Band Router on the market. I've dealt with a couple of competitors(D-link and Linksys) and this one is the best hands down. Apple does it again.

Customer Review: Best for mixed networks
Summary: 5 Stars

I had wrestled with other wireless routers for years the last being a D-link Now my 4th is this Apple. I have a mixed network of wired and wireless, 2 Macs, Apple TV, a Ruko, and 2 PCs. It took less than 5 min. to network each Mac, Ruko and the Apple TV. The PCs took about 6 min because Bonjour needed to loaded. Even my Asus netbook was simple. I could not believe how easy and now I have a 2 band (both bands are used by the Apple products) encrypted, 2 network system running at > 300 mbits instead of 54. It increased the reliability of the cable internet but not its speed (most cable internet is very fast but not that fast. What it does do is increase my transfer speed of photos and music between computers . I was almost disappointed I did not get to fiddle with the system just a little more. Took me five minutes this morning to add a USB hard drive. I think next I'll ad a hub and a printer or maybe more hard drives - nice choices

Customer Review: Why didn't I get this one sooner??
Summary: 5 Stars

I had a "pre-N" router that worked well for me for several years, until it started "forgetting" its settings and disconnecting repeatedly.

So I looked for a replacement and picked this. It's been GREAT. My previous router was solid, yet this one blows it out of the water. The connections are solid, and the data rates are much higher everywhere (even on the direct connections).

I haven't tried the USB port, but I like the "Guest Network" feature.

The installation was a breeze. The hardest part was coming up with good names for everything (decisions, decisions). It's also very easy to modify the settings, although I found in rare cases there's almost no information about what the choices mean.

Some people have mentioned trouble with the 7.4.1 upgrade, but I haven't had any issues with that, either.

Customer Review: Another HIt
Summary: 5 Stars

I'm very happy with this router. I've had it now for about six months and it's been a real improvement over my previous AirPort. As soon as I saw it could handle two different broadband speeds at the same time I knew I had to have one. As you may or may not know if you have a router that can only handle 802.11n, and you use a computer or other device is a 802.11 a/b/g device it will slow down you connection to the slowest machine on the network. My wife is using a G4 power book, and a Dell on our network and now these two devices don't slow down our connection. I don't have any way to measure this, but it's quite noticable.
We get good range. The router is in a basement office and we get good signal strength on the second floor of the house. Set is a breeze, especially if your using a Mac.

Customer Review: Simple and Great for Non-Techies Like Me
Summary: 5 Stars

I just needed wireless network for my home. Nothing fancy.
I struggled with NetLink, and others for years. Repeated hassles. Dead spaces in house, unexplained crashes, freezes, reboots time and again, no understanding of what was going on.
I finally broke down and bought the Airport Extreme even though it cost extra because my daughter got on my case when I was complaining about another crash.
I plugged it into cable, popped in CD and hit a few buttons, and in literally 3 minutes I had wireless throughout the house.
And more imporant, I've had it for almost a month now, and no, repeat, no, repeat, no problems at all.
It just plain works.
It's so worth the extra cost. Totally elegant, totally easy, totally works. All the time.
