Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station MB053LL/A [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: Fast, Reliable, Simple Summary: 5 Stars
I had 2 Netgear wireless routers before this one. The first wore out too soon, the 2nd had compatibility problems preventing me from setting up a server (port forwarding) or share drives using FTP over the internet! I plugged in the airport and not only did it recognize my DSL modem was already doing DHCP/NAT for the network, it new how to correct the settings. The Netgear had countless settings that you'd pray you had right. With the airport it knows how to set things up by asking you some simple basic questions. Not only that, my download and upload speeds have improved by around 25%. I only wish I'd gotten this one to begin with rather than trying for the cheapest option.
Customer Review: Fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
We bought this with a little hesitation at first because we had just finished wasting money on a Linksys wireless n router and before that the Netgear wireless n router. To our great surprise the Apple Airport Extreme Base Station has not disappointed us. We have multiple Macs and PCs. Every computer gets a great signal, internet runs fast and smooth and the signal doesn't drop off in our Macs like it did with the routers mentioned above. We wish we would have just spent the money for this to start with instead of wasting our time and money on the other junk not to mention the headaches it caused. You can't go wrong with this one, especially if you are a Mac user.
Customer Review: Wireless N + Gigabit created by Apple = win. Summary: 5 Stars
Specs on this product are amazing...wireless N and Gigabit ethernet connections plus platform independent access to any USB device (I use a USB hard drive) all from one router?. Nice.
After many years with Linksys, D-Link and Netgear routers all failing miserably, terrible configuration and performance followed suit (even used the top 3rd party firmware providers as a last resort on those).
Switched to the Airport Extreme Base Station and setup for multiple computers was a breeze, wireless N is working flawlessly, no clumsy setup required--it just works. But that is typical behavior of an Apple product.
Customer Review: Great router-typical Apple Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this "gigabit" Extreme to replace a perfectly good "saucer type" Apple Extreme. After a lot of research, I knew that I would be unable to take advantage of the "n" speed (no computer with an "n" card) but I did hope that I could get the extra range. That is just the case. The output on this pretty little machine is super. I have always used Apple products (when able) with Apple computers (since Apple II+) and set-up is a typical piece of cake. It took about 10 min. from out of the box 'till up and running. I've now used it for 5 days with no problems. Just hope this lasts. My only gripe is that it is a bit pricey.
Customer Review: Great Review Summary: 5 Stars
Great Router. I have a PC with gigabit ethernet. A MacBook Pro with wireless n. A FreeNAS server with gigabit. An 100mb switch, and behind it i have an xbox 360 wired (with open nat), and a windows xp pro laptop.
Connection is great. I get about 400mbps on gigabit over smb. I get anywhere from 128-216 mbps on wireless. That was measured with iStat Pro, and a 1GB .mp4 file over afp.
Setup is easy as pie. Took about 10 mins to setup. The installer (Airport Utility) walks you through it step by step.
Definitely better than my old linksys 802.11b router. Also well worth $179
