Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Apple AirPort Extreme Base Station MB053LL/A [OLD VERSION]Customer Review: AIRPORT EXTREME - A BIT TRICKY TO SET-UP BUT WORKS GREAT AFTER SET-UP Summary: 5 Stars
The Apple Airport Extreme is a bit tricky to set-up especially if you configure it with a printer and external hard drive, but once up and running, it is truly awesome. I had a little trouble with getting it to accept my ISP's configuration, but after a quick call to Apple Care, it was a cinch. I also had to consult Apple Care for configuration for my external hard drive, but again, after some help, it works wonderful. Printer set-up was easy and smooth.
Again, I recommend this product if you have a newer model MacBook, MacBook Pro, or any other Apple machine that runs OS 10.5 or later (Leopard). Be prepared to spend some time configuring it, but after set-up, it is truly an amazing router that is well worth the extra time...
Customer Review: Not easy to setup, but still a great product! Summary: 5 Stars
As quite a few reviewers have already mentioned, the AirPort Extreme does take some time to setup. Not hours (maybe 15 min), but not quite as simple as other systems I have used (D-Link, Buffalo, etc.) But that does not prevent me from recommending it to friends and family.
Once it is setup it is very stable. Unlike other devices I have not had to reboot it once every week or two. The AirPort Extreme is centrally located in our two story house and provides fantastic speeds throughout. So far I have simultaneous connections running with the following devices: PowerBook G4, MacBook Pro, iMac, Fujitsu PC notebook, Nintendo Wii and two Tivo boxes. Every device has connected without a problem and maintains a solid connection.
Customer Review: Typical Apple quality Summary: 5 Stars
Ordered an apple tv through amazon and before it came I set up my wireless network with a new Linksys wrt160n router, to try and save the extra $100 over the Airport extreme. What a mistake! The linksys was an easy set up though it did not support changes made thru safari even though it claimed to on the box. Luckily I had firefox installed on my new imac and that worked for setup. Worked fine for 10 minutes then lost throughput connection. This happened 4 times in 2 days. Tech support had me buy new cables and reset to no avail. Finally returned it to staples and bought the airport extreme. % minutes and it was up and running and it flies when dl to apple tv. Penny wise dollar foolish. Overall this is a great product.
Customer Review: Goodbye Vonage, Hello Speed! Summary: 5 Stars
We had a Vonage Lynksis router that was never really good but just got worse as time went on. As a matter of fact, I think I'll go review it after this.
Anyway, I was wary of this router because Hubby has a Mac laptop and I have a PC laptop. I thought he might have access to more features and I'd be left in the cold, as is the case all too often with PCs. But no. The only thing I can't do is run the software on my machine, which uses an older Windows version. But I don't even need it. Both our wireless connections are super fast and strong, and I can access the items we connect to the router's USB port with no problem.
I love this router. Well worth the investment. Go Apple!
Customer Review: Best of the best Summary: 5 Stars
I own an iMac G5, a Nintendo Wii, an Airport Express, a Nintendo DS, a HP Printer, and an XBox 360, and this thing works flawlessly with all of them. I can't speak for Windows based PC's, but the Airport Extreme was a breeze to setup on the Mac. The new Airport layout does most of the work for you and all you have to do is click when it tells you to. So simple a caveman could...well, you know.
*One note: If you install it, it says its working, but you're still not on the internet, then restart your cable provider's box and when it comes back on you'll be up and running. This didn't happen to me, but it did happen to a friend of mine. Just thought I'd pass the word.
