Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antennas Direct DB4 Multi-Directional HDTV AntennaCustomer Review: Works well for me Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the DB4 to replace a small, amplified uhf/vhf antenna, after proving that even a small antenna was capable of picking up DTV stations in my area (suburbs of Atlanta, GA). The antenna is mounted in my attic, as I needed as much elevation as I could get (I live in a low-lying area of my neighborhood). I used antennaweb.org's chooser service to calculate the proper heading for my antenna (given the source direction/distance to my local stations), and aimed it using a simple compass. Just to note, the loss of signal from attic-mounting seems negligible as I am picking up even more stations than the previous antenna--about 15-20 more for a total of 50 digital channels. Also, I am not even using a pre-amp, as I read that Antennas Direct recommends you try the antennas as-is first. I am, however, using an amplified splitter to feed at least 2 TV's in my house (this is just a standard CATV splitter purchased many, many years ago). So far I am quite happy with the reception and availability of channels in my area as provided by this antenna.
Customer Review: Works great in Wake County NC Summary: 5 Stars
I ran about 60-70ft of coax and connected this antenna to my Panasonic Viera Plasma HDTV without the need of an amplifier. It got me 40+ channels including CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX, UNC, UNC Kids all in HD and ION, CW (formerly WB) in SD, maybe HD; just wasn't sure on those two. Also caught several duplicate channels which are re-broadcast from outside the city and a ton of weather channels.
I mounted it in the attic with plastic zip ties because I didn't have a pole to mount it on. This all despite a label saying I would lose 40-50% of my signal if mounted indoors. It works GREAT! Imagine if you placed it on your roof? Also didn't bother aiming it with a compass. I just pointed towards the state capital (Raleigh) and WA-LA!
For the price and FREE over the air HD...it's unbeatable. The picture is beautiful on my plasma. Side note...I was going to purchase the DB4 or a terk brand antenna but I'm glad I didn't. Finally, somethings are free in life...lol. Good luck to you all and down with the cable company, kidding.
Customer Review: Best Antenna So Far! Summary: 5 Stars
I am truly impressed with this powerful little antenna. I recently purchased another indoor antenna (Terk) from Amazon and thought I was getting decent reception until I tried the DB4! Seriously - with the other antenna I would have to aim it with precision and make sure to not move it. I was able to grab around 4-6 channels with the Terk and the reception was nice and clear when I had the channels tuned in. Well I just bought a new TV so I decided to give this other DB4 a shot. I plugged it in, laid the antenna on my kitchen counter, and was able to get 18 channels!!! A handful of them are HD channels and the picture is amazing. No Pointing!! I ended up running a coaxial cable down into my crawl space and rested the antenna down there against the block foundation - Still got all the channels! I bet if I mounted it to the roof I could get even more channels but the ones I have are good enough for me. I am on a heavily wooded lot and the closest towers to me are about 20 miles away. I would highly recommend this antenna.
Customer Review: Good HDTV antenna Summary: 5 Stars
I had this temporarily setup on a pole/mast in the house next to my Terk amplified indoor antenna and it got about the same reception. I was underwhelmed but was ok with it since I bought it for the roof, where my Terk can't go.
Then, I realized I had my in-line amplifier connected wrong, then wow, after amplification the DB4 clearly did it's job better indoor or outdoor. It's on my roof now and pulling in NBC in High Point reliably from Greensboro which is listed to be 35 miles away. before amplification it was apparently on the fringe and would go out with the weather (I have a lot of dense trees), now it's good.
not only that, it indeed is fairly omni-directional as I'm only pointing at the weakest channel and it's pulling everything else at full green bars within a 30 mile range.
lastly, the square grid is relatively small and hardly noticeable on a roof compared to a dish or large traditional vhf/uhf antenna. make sure you have a good mast to mount it to.
Customer Review: Effective Design - It Works! Summary: 5 Stars
We wanted to cut expenses and the cable bill was an easy place to start. We only paid for *basic* cable, and for $22 a month, you really don't get much worth watching. So I ordered this antenna and put it in the attic since HOA rules won't allow us to mount it outdoors. I went to [...] to find the direction to the towers and got out my old Boy Scout compass so I could make sure it was pointed in the right direction. Wow! I hung it on a nail on a rafter and connected the coax, then scanned with the TV and picked up 52 digital channels! Now most of those were either unused or Spanish, but we finished with around 20 channels of *FULL* HD quality! What a difference over cable.
When I called to cancel, the girl asked why and I told her. She honestly didn't think you could get full HD over the air.
The antenna is good quality. Being made in Taiwan I think it's overpriced a bit. You have to assemble it which takes about 5 minutes. The bottom line: It Works!
