Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antennas Direct DB4 Multi-Directional HDTV AntennaCustomer Review: Fantastic!! Summary: 5 Stars
I was wanting to get rid of my DirecTV subscription to save costs, etc. so I looked at getting an outside antenna again. I found this product on Amazon and after reading some nice positive reviews I decided to give it a shot.
I am very happy with this product so far. I use it in conjunction with a Digital to Analog converter box and broadcast it through a LCD projector onto a 110-120" screen I used for when I had cable (and I use for Blu-Ray and DVD). The image is just as good if not better than cable. In fact, it rivals DVD quality. This antenna was well worth the cost and savings (less than $100 for the antenna, mast, and a long cable). I used the existing infrastructure left behind by my DirecTV and just plugged the cable from the antenna into the "antenna" port on the outside splitter box the DirecTV used. Works awesome on all TVs throughout the house.
One thing to note though, is while this antenna will receive and broadcast analog signals, the quality can be lacking (it's just like any other analog antenna when used that way). But with the digital converter box, it is fantastic and you get more channels than analog and great DVD like quality.
I highly recommend this antenna for any wanting to ditch their monthly cable bill!!
Customer Review: The DB4 is perfect for indoors or outdoors... Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this unit new in December 2010. I have an older analog CRT TV and needed a new digital antenna to go with my new converter box. The DB4 was easy to assemble, and I purchased the 75 Cm J-mount/mast by Antennas Direct as a companion mount for the exterior installation. It took me about 15 minutes to assemble the DB4 antenna and then attached it to the J-mount. For the first few days I installed the antenna indoors to test the reception in my sub-level (below ground level) living room. The reception was fantastic, a huge improvement over the less expensive rabbit ears model I had originally purchased through Amazon. The average distance for the 30+ digital channels in my area (the Washington DC Metro area) is between 10 and 15 miles from my home. With the previous rabbit ears antenna, depending on the time of day, I was able to receive between 15 and 20 channels. Channel reception would fade in and out during the day. With the new DB4, indoors, reception on all channels (now 30+) is perfect and my digital to analog converter box is reporting 100% signal strength and 100% signal quality on all channels received.
An excellent buy and an excellent solution to my antenna needs. Very happy with the purchase.
Customer Review: Works the Best Summary: 5 Stars
I wanted to get good HD reception and thought a larger antennas would be the best. I paid a lot for a new RCA type antenna that mounts on the roof that has the large aluminum rods in a V-like pattern. I paid an installer about $200 to put on my tall 3-story roof thinking I would be in great shape for reception of all Boston stations. But despite all these efforts and our trying to get the antenna positioned in the perfect direction, we could only pick up 3 stations well and one other sporadically. To make matters worse, a wind storm rotated the antenna and I lot channels.
With that background, I thought I'd try this new type of antenna. I know cell phones use similar types of repeating geometry to capture more signal power. I installed this antenna in my attic (not wanting to pay another $200 to mount on the roof). Instantly after installation I received ALL available HD signals in the Boston area. Only Fox was weak such that it required the antenna to be angled better to pick up the signal fully (one-time adjustment). I don't normally write reviews, but this worked so well I was compelled to do so. I strongly recommend this product.
Customer Review: Great Antenna with Excellent Reception Summary: 5 Stars
According to one of the antenna web sites, I needed a very large antenna with a pre-amp to pull in signals which are being broadcast about 27 miles from where I live. I reviewed both this model and the DB2 model but decided to go with this model because of the larger dB gain, distance from the broadcasting location, and because I wanted to mount the antenna in my attic. I also ordered the 75 Cm J mount with the antenna to simplify the installation but decided not to purchase a pre-amp based on the reviews here.
When the antenna and mast arrived, I was able to install and align it in about an hour and half. I was also pleasantly surprised that I could receive the channels without pre-amplification. I would make sure you use a compass to align the face of the antenna toward the most distant broadcasting towers to optimize the reception of those signals; however, because the antenna is multi-directional I was able to pick up signals broadcasted behind the face of the antenna. You can get the compass bearing and distance from the antenna web sites. Additionally, the higher you can mount the antenna the better.
Customer Review: Fabulous reception and it's still inside the house! Summary: 5 Stars
I spent a long time searching for a quality HDTV antenna and the Antennas Direct DB4 performs perfectly...and I haven't even put it on my roof yet. It's been too windy to get up on the roof so it's just plugged in and lying on the floor and working wonderfully. I live 53 miles from the closest network TV station and I am now getting crystal clear reception on over 20 different channels. Like many other reviewers, I strongly suggest visiting www.antennaweb.org, www.antennapoint.com and [...] to see where your local HDTV stations/towers are located. Finding the right antenna with the correct range and gain levels are critical for receiving the correct amount of incoming signal (too much can be as problematic as too little). If the DB4 doesn't meet your needs exactly, I encourage you to go check out the Antennas Direct website to see the capabilities of the DB2 and/or DB8 (plus many more other antennas). Their site is very helpful and informative. Also check out [...] and you'll see that Antennas Direct makes a lot of quality/highly rated hdtv antennas.
