Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec USB-Powered Notebook CoolerCustomer Review: Does What It Says! Summary: 5 Stars
I run my personal laptop at work and at home all day. I have a Lattitude D830. I usually run a program that uses around 60% CPU most of the time. This means the RAM is very hot and the CPU runs around 69C (T9300 2.5Ghz Dualcore Penryn). I use a program called Core Temp to monitor CPU temperature. The difference in idle CPU temperature is 1-2C and when running full load, I see about a 5-10C difference in CPU temperature. Since the fans on this thing are in the middle, I expect it has more of an affect on the RAM than the CPU (since the CPU has its own fan).
The Antec Notebook Cooler is a little bit smaller than my D830 but the rubber feet keep it perfectly stable if you seat it just right. I have to turn the cooler the other way around since the D830 has right USB ports. The noise level is very minimal compared to my work Precision 650 (loud). The blue power light is insanely bright - but I always put my laptop in standby at night though this may be a problem for other users.
Definitely recommend this for a $14.99 price. Though my CPU temperature tests weren't 100% controlled, I do have a noticeably cooler laptop.
Customer Review: Great value, very durable! Summary: 5 Stars
I used a Targus cooling pad for the past three years, with no one specific pad lasting longer than a year...so, a waste of money. I finally got fed up and turned to amazon, the reviews on here were extremely helpful. This pad seems extremely durable and I love that it has a high and low setting. It is comfortable when putting it on your lap and very lightweight. Without any sort of cooling pad, my laptop runs so hot, it scalds my lap. With this, I can leave it on for days! It was definitely worth the money. The fact that it doesn't take up your USB port is a big plus, although I personally have 4 and never need them all at one time.
The only drawback is that the power cord is on the left side - but that's not a problem at all, because its symmetrical, so you can just flip it around :)
EDIT: Its been a little over a month and the power cord where it plugs in to the unit is very loose and doesn't stay connected well. It doesn't fall out, the light just turns off and it stops working. Its past the 30 day return policy for Amazon, but I will look and see what I can do - its probably just a defect in my own.
Customer Review: Does it's job well! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for just $15 & free shipping, and it is well-worth it!
I use my laptop for mostly browsing the internet, MS office, itunes, picture uploading, and other applications but I'm not into gaming.
Even when I use it for less than an hour, I can sometimes feel the part where I position my wrists get quite warm. So, I got a Cool lift (just a little foam thing that elevates your laptop, so the fans can circulate the air better) from overstock.com because it had good reviews & it was cheap. That lift thing helped sometimes; but most of the time, I still felt my laptop getting really warm.
Hence, I saw the "Gold Box Deal" and decided it wouldn't hurt to try this. I expected it to be annoying because I hate the noise of fans. However, even on the high setting, it is doesn't bother me.
It is lightweight, decent looking, and does what it should do!
It fits my laptop okay; I have a 15.4 inch laptop, but I can totally see how it would fit a 17 inch one because there is a bit extra room on it when I use it.
Overall, I would highly recommend it :)
Customer Review: PLEASE READ: my notbook stays literally cold Summary: 5 Stars
The materials which this thing is constructed are pretty durable. the top is mad of aluminum which conducts heat away really well. the intake of the air is from all bottom 4 sides of the pad. 2 fans runs quietly with high and low. Let me emphasize that again, the fan runs REALLY REALLY QUITE comparing ot other brands. Usually i only need to leave the fan on low. Im not quite sure if i would ever need it on high(maybe while gaming). The area where the CPU is, you can feel "just a little bit" of heat. But the rest of the notbook stays room temperture/cold while this pad is under it. THis cooler is powered by the USB stored right in the bottom of the pad, which makes it convenient for portability. The USB also has an additional outlet right behind it which when you plug it into you notbook, it does not decrease teh number of the USB outlet abalible on your notebook. I wonder why it doesnt lable this as a special feature on the box, but i realy like it. IM VERY VERY PEASED WITH THIS PRODUCT. And im surprised how thsi product actually got other reviews less than 5 stars. because its really worth 5 stars.
Customer Review: Works Well with XBox 360 Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler to help cool my X-Box 360. The cooler runs quiet, and is the perfect size to sit underneath. The black rim also looks sleek and matches the XBox 360 Elite black.
Two issues to be aware of:
1. While you can use the USB port on the backside of the XBox to power the cooler, you cannot use the XBox 360 Wireless Network Adapter concurrently. For some reason the XBox will not recognize & run the wireless adapter using the included pass-through connector. My educated guess is that the network adapter is not getting enough power. Easy enough to fix as you can use one of the two USB ports on the front of the XBox.
2. The cooler does not power off when the XBox is turned off. It will stay on, as long as the USB is connected.
The cooler works well and noticeably cools my XBox to the touch after hours of gaming vs. no cooler. I am glad I purchased this for my Xbox and would recommend to anyone with an Xbox 360 to help protect their investment.
