Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec USB-Powered Notebook Cooler

Customer Review: Good deal
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought this notebook cooler for my HP DV5T (15.4") notebook. I couldn't ask for anything better--considering the price. Several reviews have claimed that this cooler could actually cause a notebook to overheat since many built-in notebook fans draw air up from underneath the laptop and this cooler's fans pull air down from underneath the laptop. Supposedly, this creates a "vacuum" a prevents the note book from being cooled. My notebook draws air from underneath, but the "vacuum" issue doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm sure it would be better if the fans pushed air in the other direction, but the cooler manages to do its job anyway. When gaming, the GPU temperature stays between 70 and 80 C with the cooler on and the bottom exterior of the notebook remains relatively cool. My note book is already slightly raised and the cooler came with rubber bumpers (hard to insert with bare hands, but I pushed them in with tweezers easily) to raise the notebook off the cooler further, without these, if the notebook were in direct contact with the cooler, there might be a problem with a vacuum.

Also, some reviews said the power cable was permanently attached to the notebook and flimsy. They must have redesigned the power cable because now it fully separates and stores in the base when not in use.

The notebook cooler also lets me use my laptop on my lap without scalding my thighs.

On my desk, it raises the notebook about 1" higher.

Customer Review: Overheating problem Solved!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Toshiba Satellite P105-S921 with an NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900 GS Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). In the last six months, I have had MAJOR overheating problems...even when using a notebook cooler (Micro NB360CP). So, I wanted to try something new and before I used this cooler, I took GPU and general temp measurements: (in Fahrenheit)

At idle with old cooler after two hours: GPU-198, General-186
After 1 hour of playing graphics intensive game: GPU-266, General-248

At this point, the keyboard is hot to the touch and the bottom will actually burn you. Generally, in 30 mins, the screen will go white and the laptop will shut down. I decided to stop playing the game after an hour and switched to this cooler. The results were astonishing:

After playing for another hour (all in the name of this review):
GPU-160
General-156

Basically, this cooler brought my laptop to a lower temperature during hardware intensive gaming than a competitor brought it to at idle. If you're reading this, you're probably looking for a cooler. Look no farther...this is worth every dime.

Cons:
-Removable rubber pegs that separate cooler from laptop can get lost or knocked off, incapacitating the cooler.
-The blue light is ridiculous.
Pros:
-Two speeds for different computing environments
-Short cord stays out of way...allows for USB devices to be plugged in on top of it.

Customer Review: Antec cooler is cool, but so dang bright!
Summary: 5 Stars

I got the Antec Laptop cooler very quickly and I couldn't be happier with it. While monitoring my laptop's temperatures, at idle it would sit at around 30-32 Celsius. While playing games it would reach around 80-90 Celsius, which would literally burn my lap. While surfing the web, it would reach about 60 Celsius. Now I have a Dell Laptop with a program used to manually switch my fans just for Dell laptops, so I could set my fans to high or low, but generally whenever I need to set my fans on high, the noise of the fan just gets annoying. With the Antec cooler however I no longer need to use the program to set my fan speed. The cooler is very quiet EVEN on the high setting. While surfing the web my computer would stay at 40 Celsius, gaming would remain at 65-70 Celsius, and idle at 25-28 Celsius. As far as battery life goes when plugged in, I have noticed very little difference in my battery life which would run for about 2-3 hours. The only thing that is incredibly annoying about the cooler is the overly bright light on the side of the cooler. It is very bright, so bright it could blind you( not really, but it is that bright)! The light is nothing a little piece of duck tape can't fix though! If you're looking for a good cooler, look no further than the Antec cooler, you'll love it, plus it comes with little raiser for your laptop and sports aluminum top to help with getting rid of heat.

Customer Review: Solid construction. Gets the job done.
Summary: 5 Stars

I have a Compaq Presario x1000 that is 6 years old (stoked when I bought it September 2003). I am worried about its end coming soon, so I was concerned with the noisy fan that, for the past few months, was on the entire time my computer was on. After finally running diagnostics - checked CPU fan speed, temperature - with free programs on [...], I I discovered my CPU was running at 100%. The problem was the HP PRINTER SOFTWARE. As soon as I uninstalled the HP Printer Software, everything was normal again. However, my computer fan would still easily heat up.

I bought this fan with some worry that the X shape would not be where my laptops fans are (top right and a little in the top middle). To my delight, my computer was the same one used in the box that the fan shipped in! I figured hey, they used it in the photo, it's gotta work. Well, it does. My computer is cool now.

Even with the Cooler on low, my laptop fan still gets loud at first when i run an intense program or some video (netflix movie), but only for <2 minutes, then it turns back to low where i can't hear it. Also, I can easily turn up the Cooler on HIGH to accommodate. I will turn it high for a minute or two then back to low, and my laptop stays cool.

This is a durable product that performs superbly. It has extended my laptop's life.

A Must Buy!

Customer Review: This thing is amazing! It really does work!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have to admit I was skeptical whether this thing would actually do anything or not, but wow, it really does work very well. I have an ASUS dual-core laptop with a 512MB ATI Radeon Mobility HD 2600 card. I installed Speed Fan and Core Temp to monitor the temps, and found that it was running EXTREMELY hot. I'm talking anywhere from 92-98 Celsius (~198-208F) at idle! That is just "scary hot" imo, so I started searching for cooling pads. I found this Antec had pretty good reviews so I figured it was worth a shot. Long story short, this thing works VERY well. My laptop is currently running at 79-81 Celsius (174-178F) as I type this review. That's a difference of like 25-30 Fahrenheit degrees, which is pretty huge imo. I'm also going to hit the laptop with some compressed air to blow out any dust that might be in there, so that could help as well. At any rate, I'm impressed and this cooler is easily worth the money.

As far as the blue LED goes, yes that little thing is VERY bright. One gets the feeling it might be damaging the corneas just to look at it, but it doesn't bother me because it is obscured when my laptop (which is a 15.4") is sitting on the pad.

The fan noise, even on the "High" setting, is drowned out by the laptop's internal fans (which admittedly are a bit loud themselves), so I am not noticing any "extra" fan noise.
