Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec Nine Hundred Two Ultimate Gaming CaseCustomer Review: Roomy, solid, attractive, excellent case Summary: 5 Stars
I've been building PCs for many years, and this is the finest enthusiast case I've used. It is roomy, solidly constructed, well-documented, and attractive.
If you've assembled systems before, you know that a well designed case makes a big difference in how smoothly the process goes. In the Antec 902, there are no sharp edges, no rattling bits, everything fits where it should without a struggle, and nothing creaks when I heft the case into place. This is very quality construction.
I was concerned that all the fans would generate a lot of noise, but need not have worried. With all 4 of the standard fans running on low, plus the GPU, PSU, and CPU fans-- the case is nicely quiet, less noisy than any of the floor fans in my house. And that's with 6 SATA drives spinning. The standard 200mm top fan, 120mm back fan, 2 120mm drive cage fans are plenty, although there's space to add 2 optional 120mm fans.
As a plus, two of the fans (back and top) have on-off and speed switches on the back of the case, making it easy to change airflow or make the case even quieter. The drive-cage fans also have speed controls (but not on-off switches) on the front of the case. The drive cages are removable for easy drive installation (but removing them requires removing both sides of the case). The drives are spaced for airflow, and each cage has its own fan.
And it runs cool: my low GPU temps and low CPU fan speed say all that ventilation and fans works as advertised, despite my 2x500GB, 2x1TB, 2x1.5TB drives, and i7/2.66GHZ with 6GB of DDR3, even during the sweltering summer we just suffered in the mid-Atlantic. Your PSU will bottom-mount, venting upwards into the case, but this seems irrelevant in a case this well ventilated.
The blue LEDs don't flash or do anything garish. I'm ambivalent about lit cases, but the blue glow is growing on me. The angled connector panel at the top of tall case means no hunting for the the power switch or the USB connectors that are usually vertically mounted and recessed on most systems (and hooray for the eSATA!). The ergonomics of this case seem to have been designed by somebody who actually uses PCs, bravo to Antec.
Minor caveats: this case is very heavily ventilated. Even with the front air filters, I'd not use this case in a very dusty environment. The air-filters can only be removed for cleaning after removing the sides.
If you crank the fans all the way up (not necessary in my experience), it gets noisy. The bottom-mount for the PSU means the short cables on low-end PSUs won't reach the top of the case. But why would you put a cheap PSU in a premium case??
Full sized ATX boards with edge-mounted SATA connectors like my ASUS are a little tight vs the drive-cages (I have to pull the drive cages to connect/disconnect SATA cables), but that's really an issue with board design.
The case is heavy and doesn't have a ledge or anything for use as a handle; this is not meant to take to your next LAN-party.
These are very minor caveats in a quality, well-designed case. Highly recommended.
