Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Antec Nine Hundred Steel ATX Ultimate Gamer PC Case (Black)Customer Review: Best medium sized case I have ever used Summary: 5 Stars
I really can not add much to the other positive reviews about this case, but would just like to take the time to re-inforce what reviewers are saying about Antec 900,(I own 3 of them and will continue to use this case until something better comes along, but that may be a while!) and tip my hat to Antec.
This case has very good airflow with the 4 fans that come with it. Moving air from bottom to top makes sense to me as heat always rises. All 4 fans have hi/med/lo manual switches and I have only used the lo settings, and on lo it is nice and quiet.
I recommend using Antecs TP850(or TP1000) PSU(or a simalar PSU) as the bottom mount PSU does need longer cables.
I used an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev2 CPU cooler pointing the airflow up at the 200mm top fan, I can tell you that this rig will never get hot. My CPU idles about 5 degrees above ambient temps, and does not go much higher with gaming action. This is an extremely effective air cooling setup.
The only caution I make is this: I am not a fan of multiple GPU's. I like a single high end GPU as it keeps the case from being so cluttered, and reduces heat. If you are an SLI or Crossfire user, and like lots of room, you may want to consider a larger case like an Antec 1200. If you are in a dusty enviroment use the Antec 902 that has filters. I dont like filters, if we are going to the trouble to remove the filters and clean them, why dont we just remove the computer and clean it instead? I would only use filters if I was in an extra dusty enviroment. I personally dont like to "over-stuff" my computers with all sorts of bulky things. I like my machines to be lean, clean and mean. Makes them easier to work on, and cool better.
My System:
Asus P5N-D mobo
Intel Q8400 CPU
6GB Crucial DDR2
EVGA GTX460 GPU
Western Digital 500GB Caviar Black HD
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev2 CPU Cooler
Win7 Ultimate
A very sharp, clean system, with good cable management.
Customer Review: Great all-around case, with awesome cooling! Summary: 5 Stars
After losing a couple disk drives within 2 years, and knowing that my previous case seemed to run hot, I decided to look for a new case with some sensible cooling. Reviews (not on Amazon) led me to the Antec 900.
I like several things here. First, the case is big, but not too big. I don't have any fancy graphics cards (although the manual does specifically address how to install them), and I didn't want anything too bulky, but since I was replacing the case anyway (with all the attendant work), I did want something that gave me a little more room inside. For example, in my old case, the power supply covered part of the motherboard; here they're separate. My old case required a lot of finger contortion to install a disk drive; in this case they mount from the front in a cage, with less hassle. I had no problems routing cables. It's not exactly pretty but it looks good enough.
The cooling, my main reason for switching cases, is awesome. It wasn't until I saw this case that I realized how bad my other case was, even with added fans. My previous case had no air movement around the HDD; this one does. It was never obvious to me with my previous case how the air was supposed to flow; the manual for this case is very clear, and the approach makes sense. The cooling is clearly very well thought out. Not only does it come with 4 large fans (120 mm, 200 mm), but there is support for 2 more.
Finally, I like how quiet my system is now. I thought with all the fans that it might sound like the deck of an aircraft carrier, but in fact, the temp looks good inside and it's quieter than my old case. It's just barely audible.
In short, this is just a great case, and I'm sorry I waited so long to get one. Despite the marketing to gamers, it's really good for anyone who wants to pamper their components a little (and increase their lifetime). And my middle-school daughter loves the "pimped out" look of the blue-LED fans and the clear side panel :-).
Customer Review: Nice Study Case Summary: 5 Stars
I needed to find myself another case since I was building a new computer I needed one where heat would be less of an issue. My current Cooler Master is longer but I needed another case for my new items. Though this case is not as long as my last case it wasn't really an issue. This thing comes with a nice variety of fans with two in the front, one big one up top and the other on the back. I put a new fan on my motherboard the Cooler Master V8 and had to take the spot on the left side of the case off just to make it fit. I do like seeing inside with the clear window and all the blue lights make it look nice. Everything fits but its relatively tight. My EVGA 8800 GTS 640MB fits good as well being the fat monster that it is. The wires are kind of gathered at the end of it though and now that I have everything installed that part of the case looks like a mess. This thing will fit a SLI configuration easy for me so when I get around to getting another card I will be setting it up.
A couple of issues I had was with the power supply fan facing downwards into the case (being the power supply goes on the bottom). My PSU just can't breathe and when I feel under the case where its located on the outside it is extremely hot. I couldn't figure why they wouldn't put an opening on the bottom to let it breathe a little. The fans on the case have adjustable settings and at full blast are relatively loud but if heats an issue than noise probably isn't top priority. I kind of wish I went with a full case over this one since I have so much stuff inside and I have so many wires its impossible to hide all of them. Another problem is I thought it was the type that didn't require tools for some reason which isn't a big deal but would of simplified things a little more than having a box of screws. Overall with a few nuances I found this case to be enjoyable to build into and it has a great look. Though I would recommend a full case if you're on a budget like me than this is the way to go.
Customer Review: antec 900 review Summary: 5 Stars
I was a tad concerned when I went out and purchased a case for my new PC build. I wanted a case that had the stuff I wanted it to have and not just a case that a certain genre of computer user said I should have. I picked this case bc of many of the features that it advertised.
I really enjoy the headphone and USB/1394 ports on the top the case. It really is nice to have these ports handy for swapping out different USB devices. I have my MP3 player and the GH3 Guitar hooked up right now. I dont use 1394 at all so that wasnt really needed but some may find it quite nice. It also has a little tray thinger for your MP3 player or deck of cards...whatever.
On my first impression, I said, "look at the size of that fan on top". The thing is really large and it does a great job. Speaking of fans. There are quite a bit more and they are really quiet as well. I only hear a tad bit of fan noise from the machine. Actually, it is a comfrt to hear it and it actually cools "ME" off while sitting here.
Another plus would be the layout of the PSU. It does lie on the bottom if that is going to be a problem for anyone. I had no problems getting my cords to the proper places. Only one that may be a stretch would be the CPU power but that may be on my PSU and not the case.
It has some holes on the back for you water cooling folks. Plenty of slots for the extra HDDs.
I could care less for the see through panel nor the blue LEDs on the fans but it was there and I dont care really but some folks NEED LED for the their computer to work...heh.
Nice build and sturdy material. I definatly would recommend this case for not just a gamer (looks) but for any of yall that are eyeballing a nicely laid out box for your new build. It has plenty of air flow for those high end parts.
My buid: evga 780i - evga 8800gts - corsair 620 MOD PSU - 2 Samsung SATA DVD drives - 250 Seagate SATA HDD.
Customer Review: quality built and great prformance. Summary: 5 Stars
i bought this case for my first pc build and wat can i say i love it. it shipped fast only took 3 days(not bad for free shipping). from the moment i opened the box i was surprized it was alot bigger then i thought it would be but thats good. i love the sleak black design simple yet beastly lol i was looking for a case thats simple and slick, im not too big on cases with crazy colors and odd shapes.i feel the price was right for the quality of the case. its very sterdy and seems like it will hold up a long time. the side window is very nice and has a vent hole with a additional fan mount on it if u wanted to add a fan. the lighting on the case is perfect. its a nice blue witch brings the inside of ur case to life. the lights arnt too bringt or to dim its just right. evryone that saw this case was stunned on how uniqe and pretty it looked. the inside of the case is spacious and had plenty room for all my parts.the fans are 4 pin molex connectors that u willl have to plug in ur psu not motherboared like most case fans. the case got a nice lil try on top for storage witch comes with a rubber pad that goes on it so it wont scratch the finish. over all i would very highly recomend this case to anyone its perfect for gaming or just wateve u digg. it had lots of expansion slots and drive bays. only thing i would change about it is the wire management holes to tuck all ur extra wire away, they a lil to small and close together. alot of ppl drill extra holes but i stay away from that and even how it is i still got all my wires tucked away neat.the case has VERY good cooling and is suprisingly quiet for how much fans it got.(i added a extra antec fan on my side panel window). i keep alll my fans on med and my side panel window on high and there very little noise. im very pleased with this case its a great overall case.
