Customer Review: Just right for me

I've ordered these before, and all arrived in good shape, but if I ever have a problem, I have no doubt that Amazon will take care of me - they always do. The price is amazingly low, and shipping is free. I can't see any down side here for the casual collector. If I was rich, I guess I could do better, but I ain't....

I love old movies, and since I'm on disability (thus income-challenged), I can't buy all the great re-mastered sets that are available these days. So I mostly burn DVDs from Turner Classics, 2 or 3 per disc. If you're not a quality fanatic, that's a fine way to collect lots and lots of very watchable copies to view whenever you're in the mood for them.

Old guys like me used to be limited to whatever oldies were available on VHS (not many out there), and even the cheapest VHS versions were fairly expensive. Videotapes took up way too much space, didn't last very long, and were difficult to store and browse through. Plus, the original quality of the more inexpensive tapes usually ranged from poor to awful. Copying was not an option, so if I loaned them out, I risked never getting them back.

Shoot, DVD copies are heavenly for an old movie fan like me, and I've managed to assemble almost 2500 titles over the last seven or eight years. The only problem was finding a practical and economical way to store them.

These particular slim double DVD boxes are of excellent quality. They offer me the best protection in the smallest space, they rarely break, and they are an absolutely terrific value for my purposes. I put my DVDs together in a few basic film categories, write the contents on index cards that I Scotch tape to the front, then store them in any old cheapo boxes, which I label by category. They're easy to flip through on a late night search for whatever I'm after at the moment, and they're easy to move or reorganize when the necessity arises.

Like I said, if you've got more money, I'm sure you can find better ways to do it. But frankly, I think you're going to pay a LOT more money for very little improvement in protection and convenience. Every system has its own problems - jewel cases are expensive and break easily, paper sleeves are cheap but barely adequate, thicker single boxes take up much more space and even the most expensive ones have the same problems with spindle/clamps and clear plastic covers holders. And there are some brands on double cases, especially slim ones, on the market today that are cheap pieces of... well, you know.

But I've found this particular brand to be very sturdy and well-constructed. My dogs ate a couple of them, but that's hardly the manufacturer's fault (and the DVDs actually survived). Otherwise, I've had no problems at all, and I'd recommend them highly, especially if you order them directly through Amazon.
