I purchased this optical cable to go with my new Western Digital HD Media Player and figured I'd give it a shot. I've seen the optical port on various devices for years and never knew what it was. I did a little research & thought I'd splurge a bit and give it a shot and - WOW. It is very well worth it!
First, I'll talk about the actual Amazon cable itself: This is an Amazon-branded cable and as advertised, comes in a simple cardboard box sealed with a sticker. I've done business with Amazon for years and have had only stellar experiences and customer service, so I purchased an Amazon-branded product without any hesitation.
The cable itself seems very nice and high quality - nothing eye-popping, but it just feels like a nice, quality product, certainly well worth the approx. $7 I paid for it.
Now the real surprise came when I hooked it up to my home theater system - the sound quality difference is night and day over the RCA cables I had used before and the ones we all probably use - you know, those multi-colored plugs.
The sound is certainly more clear, but most notably LOUDER. On most DVDs, I'd have to crank the volume way, way up just to hear the dialogue in some scenes, but now it is much more clear and I can keep my stereo's volume much lower than before and the sound is actually better than ever.
To sum up, if you have any devices in your home theater that accept an optical connection, USE IT and buy an optical cable.
If you are looking to buy this optical cable in particular, go ahead - you're getting top-quality stuff.
