At 14.99 it is worth having a spare. The Kindle always seems to run low on power at the farathest distance from wherever the cord is plugged in. THe first chaarger is plugges in next to my bed and I have been keeping the extra one plugged in next to my reading chair. I also like it for travel.
I also love the detachable plug. I have used it to charge other items that are slow to take an initial charge through a USB. I don't know why more products don't come with one.

My beloved husband is horrible about keeping up with things like power adapters and keys. So I am pre-empting him by getting a spare immediately.
The design of the Kindle 2 power adapter is most excellent. The price is reasonable, and it rolls up compactly to be placed out of sight until needed. Love the 2-in-1 function with the USB. The fact that it can be used with some other mini-USB devices is an added bonus. It's a winner!

I turned on my Kindle and the battery was dead! Oh no, I really need it for a book I was required to read. Plugged it in to the adapter and nothing happened. Either it's the Kindle or the power plug. I called the help number for Kindle on the Amazon website and the service rep. immediately knew that it was the power plug and had one fed ex'ed to me the very next day. The only reason I purchased a extra adapter was to spare myself the frustration of finding a replacement when I really need one. This usb tip isn't the most popular, I'm not sure where to find one. Besides I don't want to void my warranty by using a off brand adapter in case something went wrong with my Kindle. Compared to what I have paid for cell phone adapters and chargers this price is in the ballpark.Customer Review: Quick replacement

Did you ever leave something in a hotel room? I plugged my Kimdle power cord in on the desk lamp. Only several days later when I planned to recharge again..the power adapter was missing from the cord. I must have carelessly yanked the cord loose in my haste to get packed. On my arrival home I ordered a replacement unit and was so happy to be connected again in 2 days. Thanks Amazon!
