i was traveling in hawaii with my kindle (of coourse)...the next stage in my trip was shanghai. i had pulled the cord out of the wall when i finished my last charge in hawaii, and packed everything (i thought ) in it's travel bag. on the last day of my shanghai stay, i tried to charge the kindle for the return trip to toronto and boston...discovered i hadn't gotten the part of the plug that connected to the electrical outlet! i realized immediately what had happened, wrote off the connector, and went on line to order a replacement.
almost by the time i got home, my package was there with my connector.
i have used the troubleshooting aspect of kindle before. i got a real human being, i was walked thru the problem, i was back in operation immediately. in this case, the part i needed was almost seamlessly there when i got home and needed it. i LOVE my kindle (could have sold at least a dozen to people i met on the trip), but terrific as it is, the tech service behind it is even better....thanks!

I bought the Kindle when I was in the USA but on my return to Australia I discovered I left the power adapter behind in my condo in the USA. For some reason Amazon cannot or will not mail a replacement cable to Australia so now I'm unable to re-charge my Kindle as the Micro USB cables available in Australia do not fit the Kindle as it is tiny compared to the ones available here.I would say this is one huge draw-back of this particular USB power adapter.Other than that it works great to re-charge the Kindle.Luckily I do have some friends in the US and one of them is willing to mail the replacement cable to me in Australia. Hopefully this will work out OK or else I will have no choice but to wait until I get back to the US at the end of the year.Customer Review: kindle 2 charger

probably not many choices on the market, but amazon's kindle 2 charger is simple to use and easy to carry. This also makes for problems as the unit that actually plugs into the socket can be removed from the cord leaving you with a standard USB cable and your power adapter in the wall. After losing one power adapter plugged into the wall when pulling my adapter out of the wall socket by the cord instead of holding on to the power adapter unit itself, I have learned how to remove the unit properly and when traveling, I need only carry the small power adapter and travel with only one USB cable which can be used for multiple purposes - therefore less cables to carry around.

Amazon Kindle 2 Replacement Power Adapter
With all the new features that are touted for the new Kindle 2 (form factor, almost foolproof page turning buttons, text speaking, etc.) I was surprised that Amazon never mentioned this wondrous combination charger in its publicity. Though there are similar, albeit somewhat larger, USB power plugs (e.g., for Apple's iPods), this sleek integrated multi-purpose plug deserves a design award strictly on its own. It would make a great gift for travelers who don't even own a Kindle 2, but travel with other USB-chargeable devices like MP3 players. BRAVO, Amazon!

Working at a county library I have access to thousands of books. For the last six months I thought about purchasing a Kindle and finally decided to do it because I am going on a trip to Germany in July. I just took the Kindle on a weekend trip to Houston and enjoyed not having to take two or three bulky books on the plane.
So far I am very satisfied with the Kindle. It's light-weight, small enough to fit into a purse and very handy.
I am glad I bought the Kindle and hope to enjoy it many, many years.
