Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Aluratek AIRMM01F Internet Radio Alarm Clock with built-in WiFi (Black)Customer Review: Great value for the money Summary: 5 Stars
I have had this unit for a month.Paid $109 for it.First thing you want to do is upgrade the firmware.Mine came with R1.17.Go to website and navigate to the downloads for your particular model and download the .bin file to your usb drive.The site does not inform you what revision level the bin file is,but you can rest assured that it is higher than what shipped on your unit.My upgrade was up to R1.37.Plug in your usb stick and navigate to the firmware upgrade screen and it takes only a couple of minutes.
Most of the complaints I read about in the earlier posts seem to be resolved now.There are backlight brightness and ontime options now.The Aluratek-vtuner website let me set up my favorite web stations into user friendly groups that work well for me.As an experiment I found an internet radio station not on the vtuner list.I put it on the station add list and it showed up quickly.
The usb input is really the feature that clinched this unit for me.I listen to longer mp3 files other than music and its nice to be able to do this.Its a lot more convenient than firing up my PC to listen out loud.Not to be confused with a home entertainment center but a nice little "clock radio" with lots of nice features for the price.
Customer Review: Love it! Love it! Love it! Summary: 5 Stars
When the Smooth Jazz station in my area went off the air, I thought about getting a subscription to satellite radio but figured that there should be a device that allowed me to listen to the radio - away from my computer - over the internet via the internet subscription I already have. Enter the Aluratek AIRMM01 Internet Radio. It does everything I want: streams thousands of smooth jazz stations from around the world (I listened to a station in Belgium last night!) to my bedroom, picks up my local FM stations, displays the time and has a sleep timer. (The media service streaming & MP3 player are icing on the cake for me) It's fabulous.
BE SURE TO DOWNLOAD & INSTALL THE FIRMWARE UPDATE. Once you do the unit automatically detects the wireless networks available; pick yours, enter your security key if necessary and you're good to go. The sound is decent, better than your average clock radio, but it's not Bose. It's a nice size - doesn't take up too much space on your dresser or night stand. The display is quite bright, not good for sleeping; I turn it off at bedtime since I like my room dark. I'm seriously considering a 2nd unit for the kitchen. I've been using it about a week and I consider it money well spent.
Customer Review: Awesome radio Summary: 5 Stars
This is what I wanted for Christmas and after much research on my part finally told my husband. He and my daughter kindly set it up for me. I have been finding myself lounging in bed later in the mornings listening or looking for new things to listen to. I like talk radio. I live in an area that is an hour from each of 3 large cities, sometimes I am lucky to even get an FM station. I have been visting with my children since Christmas and it works wonderful at their house. I am excited to go home and see how it is at my house. I have heard that many wi-fi radios do not work with Hughes.net so that is a concern. I will update you.
The face light is VERY bright,brighter, britest, that is about the only CON I have found so far. I plan to find a scrap of window tint to cover it.
I think you just have to play around and figure out the way to use the remote to change channels. Tip: use the left arrow key alot!
I dont mind the sound, the closer you are the more tin-canny it gets, since I have it on the head board, I am close but there are 3 settings for that also.
After I get it to my house and make sure it works with my wi-fi...I'm putting another one in my kitchen too!
Customer Review: Exceeded My Expectations Summary: 5 Stars
I have had the radio for three weeks now and am extremely happy with my purchase. I knew that I would get a large assortment of radio stations. I didn't know how easy it would be to use. The menus are simple and clear. The remote works very well. The quality is great. Everything works as specified.
Just imagine hearing about the tsunami in Samoa and then tuning in to the news reports from neighboring Australia before going to sleep at night. Well that what I did last week. What a great technology and device.
I am about to purchase a second one to hook up to my stereo system in the den.
There was one minor glitch. During my first set up, the radio gave me an error warning on the display. There was nothing in the instruction manual to help me resolve the problem. I called tech assist and they helped me through the problem. All that was required was hitting the reset button on the back of the radio. I would think that this is a common problem and should be fixed in future editions of the instruction manual. The bad news was the manual had an omission. The good news was that the tech assist phone call was very helpful.
Customer Review: Update the Firmware! Summary: 5 Stars
** BEFORE FIRMWARE UPDATE **
I was initially unable to get this clock to connect to my WPA/WPA2 wireless network (D-link router).
Clock *was* able to connect to one my neighbor's unsecured networks.
I updated the firmware like so;
* Download ZIP from Aluratek
* Extract BIN file from ZIP to a USB flashdrive
* Plug USB drive into the clock, yeah it has a port
* Goto config screen, select F/W update
** AFTER FIRMWARE UPDATE **
WPA/WPA2 works great!
The screen is very bright, but you can configure it to dim after 1,3,10 minutes.
Time updates from internet via NTP; you only have to tell it the timezone you're in.
DLNA support is touted but its not working for me yet from my Vista laptop, PS3 works fine so I think the share is configured correctly.
Alarm can be set for specific days, great feature. I hate waking up early on weekends cause I forgot to disable the alarm.
I give it five stars, its pretty raw. If I had not found the firmware update I would have returned it.
