Customer Review: Outstanding for the price!

I've been listening to internet radio since the dark ages of realaudio before the DMCA controversy in the late 90s. Always via computer though, and 90% at work. I've considered buying an internet radio in the past but did not want a clock radio or little stand-alone box; I've always run a laptop through my home stereo when I wanted to listen at home.
The few component receivers I've seen (i.e. Sangean WFT-1) cost more than a new netbook, so I held off. The AIRECO1F come in at less than 1/3 the price of competitors though, so I thought I'd give it a try. I am impressed.
Out of the box I had the unit up and running in five minutes. I did not open the instructions; it's that simple to use. I run a second, unsecured wifi system at home and was able to connect with no problems. The only challenge was futzing through a few menus to set the clock.
PROS: Finding stations and using the favorites is an intuitive process. Buffering takes only a few seconds on most stations. The included remote (required for all functions, so don't lose it!) works well. Stations can be located geographically or by genre. The volume of the line out can be controlled from the remote, as can the backlight. Sound quality is better than expected with few dropouts. There's a sleep function. And of course thousands of stations from all over the world. No PC is required to set up stations; unlike some competitors you do not need to use an external server to access or save channels (a plus to me, as some receivers only work via a proprietary web page-- and what happens when that goes down or the company is sold?).
CONS: The backlight is terribly bright even on the low setting, and you can't lock it off (if you turn it off and they hit mute, let's say, it comes back on). Favorites are saved in predetermined genres, rather than user folders. Form factor is a bit odd...doesn't look like something that should be sitting on top of my stereo and can't be stacked with other components.
I'm delighted with the receiver so far. Some reviewers have had reliability issues over time, so I'll edit this if anything comes up. If it continues to work as it did out of the box I have to say it's the best value in a component receiver currently available.
