We bought this for our dance teacher for her birthday, so she won't have to lug boom box, tapes, CD's, etc., around to lessons, shows, etc., and then fumble through all the tapes and CD's. It, along with the IPod she bought, is the perfect solution! She can start a song from out on the floor with her tiny remote control, and the music is instantly accessible. We selected this one because it was rated so highly for quality of sound and overall quality, and we are not disappointed. It is a great product, and it is simplifying our teacher's life in a really useful way. Some people asked me why I didn't get one of the cheaper models they see advertised here and there, and I had to explain that there are many cheesy products out there, but we wanted something reliable and with great sound. And the price was right at Amazon! We are optimistic that this product will give her many years of great service. After shelling out approximately 300 bucks for my 30 GB iPod, more for a case, and yet more for a car adapter, I was loathe to blow another wad of cash just so I could listen to it at home. I used the FM adapter on my RoadTrip for a while on my home stereo, but that quickly became more hassle than it was worth (it has to be hooked up to a computer). After listening to some of the low end, smaller speaker systems I realized that, if I really wanted to capitalize on the great sound the iPod was designed to provide, I was going to have to pay up.
Then I found this little beauty. It's not cheap by any means, but its definitely much more affordable than anything else I could find that had comparable sound quality. The sound is excellent--certainly all and more than I could hope for. It now seems like a great investment to me. The design is compact enough to be somewhat portable and the sound quality is awesome. Definitely worth it.

i purchase this product for my ipod and i'm very much satisfied. altec lansing is very generous with their standard accessories. the speakers came with everything you need to operate and then some... universal adapter with interchangeable plugs, sleek remote, cord for your laptop's or portable cd player's headphone jack, av cable etc... it sounds better than our sony dvd component system... charges my ipod... play anywhere with D batteries... my mom and brother loved the sound so much that i had to leave the speakers with them when i went back home last december... i'm definitely getting another one.. my only gripe maybe is that it probably needs a handle of some sort... you can buy a harness which is also cool but it costs 35 bucks for one shoulder harness... get this one... bose is overrated... these speakers are comparable... good bass... overall good sound... with the sound, accessories and cost, this is a much better buy than a bose..Customer Review: Great portable player!

I bought the IM7 for a vacation cruise, and I couldn't have been happier with it. I wanted something easily portable, but without giving up sound quality; the IM7 was just what I needed. Whether I was in my cabin, on the sundeck of the ship, or laying on a beach, I had all of my tunes with me, and they sounded great! Awesome bass! The remote came in very handy when I was just laying around and I wanted to adjust the volume, bass/treble, or skip/repeat a track without getting up.
Just make sure your ipod is fully charged before you use the IM7 on batteries. I was on a beach and the ipod battery died, although the iM7 still had power. It wont charge your ipod when its on the battery feature.
I recommend that if you'll be using this as a portable player,that you check out the shoulder strap carrying case too. It's a great way to add protection and convenience while you carry it from place to place.

After doing alot of research on this unit,I finally decided to purchase it and I was not disappointed. The sound quality is great! However, there are a couple of things that one needs to be aware of before purchasing this unit. First of all, it's a bit heavy for a portable and so I suggest that if you intend to carry it around that you purchase a shoulder harnest which you can find on line for about $30.00. Secondly, my unit arrived damaged. The door in which the IPod fits was broken (it would not fasten shut). The only thing that holds the door close when you push it is a "small" piece of plastic with a "little" groove on it. This did not prevent the unit from playing but could make breaking the door off very easy when transporting it. This is a design flaw that Altec should fix and I doubt that it would cost them very much money. In my opinion, the sound quality of the unit is too nice for such a cheap door.
