Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 Portable Audio System for iPod (White)Customer Review: Truly amazing sound Summary: 5 Stars
This unit is brilliant! Rich, full sound with bass so solid you can't believe it comes from a package this size. I've tried it with several types of music and it's been well suited to each: With lo-fi, there's minimal distortion; electronica comes off crisp and clean; even driving guitars render well without sounding muddy. Imaging is excellent, and no matter how loud I've cranked it I can't get it to clip. Combined with an ipod and a portable cd player with a tuner, this could be your only sound system and you'd still have better fidelity than many component systems I've heard over the years.
I also like the fact that the volume setting is independent of the ipod's, so when you remove it from the iM7 and put headphones back in you don't have to readjust the iPod's volume. I haven't yet needed to play it with batteries, but I'm guessing it gets pretty heavy, so it's probably not well suited to be a traveling unit. Then again, none of the more portable units can come close to the bass response this model generates.
If you're looking for room-filling sound at a reasonable price (mine was $139 on Amazon), buy the iM7 without hesitation.
Customer Review: No BoomBox Compares, nothing comes close Summary: 5 Stars
This boombox is incredible. I have had it for over one year now and it continues to amaze me.
Pros:
-Unsurpassed sound volume. Not only is it LOUD, but it never distorts and is clear at ANY volume, none other deliver this
-Bass and Range is incredible, the Bass is powerful enough to deliver powerful bass throughout even a LARGE room.
-Compatable- this is compatable especially for any model ipod, HOWEVER, you can use it with any mp3 player, cd player, etc, etc, because of its AUX feature!
-Portable- Its tube design is small for the volume and quality of sound it produces, can add 8 D batteries for portable use (no AC)
I have brought this boombox to parties and houses with big cd changers or people with computer speakers and a sub and still blown them away.
Cons: I recommend buying the strap for it as it makes it MUCH easier to carry the box and the cords you can use with it.
-Short battery life, might be worth the money to buy 8 D batteries for one exciting day at the beach, but it won't last more than a few hours, especially with how much sound this thing puts out.
Buy it.
Customer Review: A bit heavy but a BIG, FULL sound at a great price! Summary: 5 Stars
Even without the optional 8 D-cell batteries the iM7 could probably serve as an anchor for a modest-sized sailboat. But if, like me, your main concern is SOUND QUALITY, look no further because this is your baby. I had heard a friend's Bose SoundDock and liked it, but at roughly half the price the iM7 was a no-brainer. The deep, tight bass and rich, non-distorting sound easily fills any room, and even outside by the pool the iM7 has more than enough oomph to satisfy the most discriminating listener.
Yeah, changing the remote battery is a MINOR annoyance as some have pointed out, but thankfully it's not something you need to do often and it's really no big deal anyway. Other trivial annoyances are the limited remote control range (maybe 8-10 feet) and the non-referenced bass and treble controls, but these are all unimportant in the greater scheme of things.
Bottom line: This device works as advertised and does what it's supposed to do well. It comes with adapters for various iPod models (including the Nano) although none is needed for my 4G 40GB click-wheel version.
Highly recommended. BUY IT!!!
Customer Review: GREAT device with one small flaw... Summary: 5 Stars
I just received my iM7 from Crutchfield via Amazon. I was hesitant to open it because between order and receipt I read a review in one of the Mac mags that said the sound was mediocre. I finally bit the bullet and, boy! They couldn't have been more wrong ! The sound from this sleek beauty is amazing. Rich, vibrant, mellow - and I prefer it to a Bose SoundDock I have heard. Also, this unit is designed to be portable and the SoundDock isn't.
One small gripe - the battery compartment on the remote is a nightmare. If you have three hands, I suppose it is easy enough to open, but for those of us endowed with only two... A trim piece snapped off my remote the first time I tried to open it. The upside? I e-mailed Altec Lansing, and within 4 days I had a replacement in the mail !!! AMAZING!! A company that understands the concept of customer service ! My only other suggestion? I wish this unit came in black. I know, my IPod is white, but I'd still rather have a black one.
I give this unit an enthusiatic 5 stars, despite the battery compartment on the remote. Don't wait another moment ! Buy one now !
Customer Review: Amazing Customer Service Summary: 5 Stars
Wow.
I am seriously impressed. I live in Mexico and was intending to buy some speakers for my ipod. After researching the available models I decided on the iM7.
I knew the price in the U.S., and was disappointed when I saw that the price locally was over twice as much. I would just have to wait for my next trip to the States.
Well, I decided to check whether Amazon could ship it to me. It could! and the price seems reasonable! Including the shipping and import duties!
I made my order and saw delivery would be in 2 days. I was very skeptical. In fact, delivery was the following day. Next day delivery on an international shipment. WOW.
One problem. Despite having paid an "Import Duties Deposit" to cover taxes and duties, DHL charged me aproximately the same amount upon delivery.
After contacting Amazon, they promptly refunded the "Import Duties Deposit"
Very professional, quick, service.
Oh, and the speakers? Everything they are supposed to be. Wonderful sound. Great value.
