Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 Portable Audio System for iPod (White)Customer Review: Best sound for your buck Summary: 5 Stars
This machine is great. I originally bought the inMotion iM7 back when it was available at Best Buy and fell in love. After a year or so of hard love and a bad power outlet I needed to replace it. Best Buy no longer carries these great jam boxes. So I went through a Bose, JBL, and another type I wasn't familiar with. Was never happy with the replacements.
Amazon.com was a last resort. Thank goodness I found this guy again!
Here is the point;
*Great crisp sound when turned up loud.
*Low deep bass and an amazing treble
*Remote control
*If the bass is too much or there isn't enough treble, YOU can change the settings by remote
*Comes with a aux cable for plugging in anything that isn't iPod, listen to a laptop, a Walkman, a Zune, if it has a headphone jack you can plug it into the iM7
*Portable! With some D batteries you can take this bad boy to the beach and share you great taste in music with everyone.
*Tough. I've dropped the iM7 once or twice and besides a little ding and a dent in the screen, it still plays like new.
*Cheap. For the quality of sound and control you have with this box you can pay up toward $300+ for any other machine that doesn't even come close to this awesome sound.
*Travel. iM7 comes with a set of different plug attachments for different parts of Europe, Japan, the world.
You can't go wrong with the inMotion iM7. I promise.
Customer Review: I am very happy with the im7 Summary: 5 Stars
I think these are great portable speakers.
As a reference point, I first bought the logic i station and returned it as I thought the sound was terrible. I then got the jbl on stage and im7 to compare the two. While I thought the JBL was much much better than the istation, I thought the im7 was even better. The JBL sounds a little tinny and doesn't get very loud. The IM7 can get fairly loud and to me sounds good. The extra money for the IM7 was worth it to me, but if you are trying to save money, I would say that the JBL is a good buy.
Other im7 pros: Unlike the Bose sounddock, you can control the bass and treble on the im7. Also, unlike the Bose or the JBL, you have a battery option on the im7. And of course, the sound is great--my family was also surprised how good the im7 sounded for a one piece system.
The one negative on the im7 is the remote. You have to be fairly close for it to work.
I can't do an accurate sound comparision between the Bose and the im7 as I only heard the Bose in the store, but given how good the im7 sounds, I think they are comparable. Even if the Bose is slightly better, it is definitely not $100 dollars better than the im7.
While I am very happy with the im7 for a portable system, if you do not need portable, I would recommend the klipsch ifi instead. I have that system as well and it is incredible.
Customer Review: KICK IT OUT Summary: 5 Stars
PARTY YER iPOD ! Sounds GREAT ! The massive battery consumption is great for the outback. By that I mean it takes a LOT of D cells not that it EATS them any faster than it needs. If you have ever played with any of those 2 AA or AAA "powered" speakers you will appreciate the difference. These speakers ROCK.
2 questions I will try to answer after extensive Playa torture testing is how well the batteries last and will it charge the iPod with the batteries or do you need AC ? OK the batteries last pretty well but they do not recharge your iPod, you need AC power for that.
One quibble is the remote is a bit lame, you need to fire it directly at the mothership to get it to work but it does have a stash spot on the unit that is handy to prevent loss and more than I can say for BOSE. O yeah and did I mention that this sound beats my Wave radio ?
Since I have written most of this my X GF inherited the iM7 unit [ I wanted her to go happy hula-ring into the sunset so didn't fight her for it.] I tried to replace it with a iM9 after a iM4 and thy both fell flat, more portable but the sound is definitely lacking. SO I GOT ME ANOTHER ONE and THAT is high praise indeed. In fact the ONLY iPod speaker system I have heard that MAY be better sounding is Apples iPod HI - Fi and thats 200 bucks more. ALSO for some reason the iM7 is now about a hundred bucks cheeper than from the Apple store on Amazon.
Customer Review: Good sound reproduction and looks Summary: 5 Stars
My wife and I bought this for our 15 year old daughter who has an Ipod and whose boom box had died. After looking at the options in the $90 - 150 range and reading the various reviews, I was going to buy the Bose Ipod player based on the Bose reputation and the fact I wanted my daughter to have something she would be satisfied with a few years and could take off to college in a couple more. I decided to read some of the reviews for the Bose and saw a few references to the Altec Lansing iM7. After reading many more reviews of both units (Bose and AL), I decided to purchase the AL iM7 not because it was cheaper, but because the majority opinion is that it has better sound. On Christmas day, my daughter had it up and running in about 15 minutes and we were all amazed at the bass this little unit can put out. The highs could be a little clearer, but overall, this is a great sounding unit and in her 12 x 12 bedroom more than fills the room with sound. This unit will definitely fill up larger spaces easily. It is also mobile and can be run with batteries.
Pros: great sound; cheaper than the Bose; will provide years of satisfaction.
Cons: remote is very small and could be lost easily though there is a nifty little holder it snaps into. You may want to add some external tweeters to improve the highs if using as your main music source in a living room.
Customer Review: inMotion iM7 - Best on the Market -Hands Down Summary: 5 Stars
I shopped on the internet for hours before making what I found to be a very difficult decision to buy the Altec Lansing inMotion iM7. I have been a devout Bose fan for over 15 years, but found myself making the decision to try another brand than I was used too. The Bose Sound Dock failed to have the bass that most Bose products offer. I believe it results from the lack of the acustimass technology (aka subwoofer). Also the Bose lacked the volume that the iM7 offered. I looked hard at the Klipsch iGroove HG which would have been my second choice.
Strengths for the iM7 include, Bass - limitless and deep. The highs and mids are also clean and crisp. I have had no problems with the door. In fact I feel it protects the iPod better than most do. This unit will wake the dead without distortion if you really want to. Excellent volume range. The cost is another nice aside. It runs about $75 dollars less on many websites than both the Klipsh and Bose systems.
The only down side if you can call it that is its size. It is slightly larger than the other mentioned units, but for my office purposes it works excellently. My second choice would have been the iGroove if I had not trusted the reviews I read about the iM7.
Good luck and happy shopping.
