After comparing, in person, over 15 of the most common ipod/mp3 dock speaker units, the IM600 was the best value for the money. Sounds incredible for its size, Has several audio visual jacks, a FM radio,and it's portable with a lithiom ion battery and remote. Try and find any product in this price rage that offers anything close. Crystal clear sound with great imageing and strong volume. Not a base powerhouse, but very respectable. Some complained about not coming with a carring case. I found an Universal Voyager brand 96 CD case that fits like a glove after removing the CD sleeves for 11.00 w/ zippered compartments that hold all the accessories at a large retail Mart. Bose can keep their 400.00 sound dock which by the way can only be sampled in most stores with an enhanced sound display they provide and not your own ipod. Altec Lansing's (AL) inMotion iM600 is simply the best Ipod docking/mP3 player station on the market. I've owned/tried a multitude of similar products out there - Bose, Sony, et al. - and this one beats them hands down - IMHO. With the ESS feature on, the depth of the band of sound is phenominal.
I also want to mention the quality of AL's customer service. I bought my inMotion from Amazon (obvious, hence the review). It arrived no problem but did not work. I called Al, told them the problem, also told them (since I'm an honest guy) that I had purchased it used without a box or paperwork. They said that it was irrelevant and to ship the unit to them. I also notified the seller and he refunded my shipping of the unit back to AL. Within 10 days, AL sent me a brand new boxed unit (I did check the serial numbers) with paperwork with a full warranty.

I have had this unit for almost a year and all I can say is wow. First of all the sound quality is very impressive. I listen to mainly alt country, blues, folk and some alternative and it all sounds great on this unit. Like other reviewers have said harder edged music sounds a little strained at high volumes levels but that is too be expected for the price.
Next to the sound I absolutely love the portability of the iM600. I can take it to work, the cabin, the beach, really anyplace I want music. The unit works for a solid six hours before needing a charge. Recharging is a breeze and another big plus because you dont have to waste money on batteries.
If you are looking for a solid value for the sound and money you can't go wrong with the iM600. It is the best $150 I have spent in a long time.

Great product, provides a ton of input/output options for the price range.
Component Video Out: The Component video output provides a way to hookup the unit to your TV and you will be able to watch IPod/Touch/Iphone videos on the big screen.
Subwoofer Out: Connect the Altec Lansing subwoofer to add more options to your listening experience
USB : The USB jack allows you to sync your ipod directly from your PC when charging from the Unit
Listening options include Aux Input/FM Receiver/IPod, Sound is great and better than the Klipsch unit that i bought (I returned it because of issues with the remote). Morover the rechargeable battery option allows you to use it without a power unit. However watch out for price fluctuations, I have seen the unit being sold for as low as 65% by Amazon.

I got this dock station back in May after bringing my ipod into the electronics store. I was testing for sound quality before I even looked at prices. I LOVED IT!! My roommate and mother bought the two new Bose portable docking stations. Mine sounded just as great but the remote worked so much better. Best of all, I take this outside and all to everyroom in the house while Im cleaning or working. Its even taken a good beating by little ones wanting to carry it around. It's never died on me. I dont have to carry some cord around with me. I only remember to plug it in because I want my ipod to be fully charged before I make and sales calls on the road. The price is reasonable and the performance is great. I highly recommend this product and will be purchasing two for friends and family this x-mas.
