Customer Review: Add a powered sub, and you're cooking with plutonium!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had these speakers for about 8 months now. I only use the volume at around 20 (out of 40), and it is plenty loud. I added an old powered sub that I had, and this combination really rocks! You don't need the Altec-Lansing one, which seems nearly impossible to find. The dock speakers redirect bass out to the sub when it senses the 'sub out' plug engaged to free up wattage for the mids and highs. I use the speakers for my laptop, as well as the ipod, though really, since iTunes is on the laptop, there's no need for the ipod, except to charge it. One thing I will comment on, and this is something others have noted: sometimes the connection between ipod and dock is not so good (won't play/charge), so I just stick something small and soft (nerf dart?) to tilt the ipod a little forward, and then all is good. So I don't use this system for its portability very often, but for me, it works extremely well. Great highs, great lows, it's not Bose! I'm kidding, Bose is good, though overpriced.

Customer Review: Just Purchased, and So Far, I Love It
Summary: 5 Stars

I hesitate to post a review when I've only had this system for a few days, but so far, I'm very pleased with it. For complete dorks like me who just got their first iPod (iPod Classic 5th Gen, used), I suggest downloading the Quick Start Guide from the Altec Lansing web site, because very little instruction comes with the system. I love the slim but study design. It's easy to carry from room to room, takes up very little space, and looks good everywhere. For my purposes, the sound is very satisfactory, and I get excellent reception for local FM radio stations. I anticipate taking it to the office some, and definitely on vacations. I can see that the remote limitations would be irritating to some, but they haven't bothered me. Usually, the unit is close enough that I don't use the remote, but it does offer the power on/off, skip, play and pause, and volume for the iPod. As one other person mentioned, I'd love to have a handle, but it's not a big issue for the way I use it.

Customer Review: Gift Giver
Summary: 5 Stars

While I am older than "boomers," I do purchase gifts for the "X-generation," and even younger. so I try to keep abreast of what is "in" with my younger relatives and friends. While I'm one of the few people in the civilized world without an iPod, I know there are times when it is inappropriate to wear ear-buds or when you would like to share your music with others, or just fill your house or patio area with music.

After carefully evaluating amplifiers for ipods, the clear winner. from the standpoint of cost, quality, portability and features. was the Altec Lansing iM600. Yes, there are many cheaper alternatives, but once you listen to music played through this little wonder, you are reminded that this company made its name building loudspeakers and they have applied that experience to shrink a system to this size. Excellent quality at any volume, complete portability, and it recharges the iPod when the unit is connected to AC. The iM600 defines awesome.

Customer Review: The iPod never sounded so sweet....
Summary: 5 Stars

This is one of the best purchases I've made for my iPod. The sound that comes out of this small (but powerful) audio component is AMAZING to say the least. I use this in a gym for physical training and the sound is very clear and loud for its size. This has numerous features that the other stereo systems DON'T have. To name a few, it's VERY portable -- the battery lasts... well for a long time and you don't have to worry about replacing costly AA batteries. The rechargeable battery works well and it has never died on me, even after 4 or 5 hours of continuous play. The FM radio is an added plus as well as the TV out. You can watch all of your iPod movies/TV shows on a regular TV and they look and sound near perfect. Very sleek design that looks great. If you have an iPod, you'll definitely want to invest in this portable stereo, it's THE BEST!!!

I'm so glad I made this purchase over the other ones. I would buy another one if I had a 2nd iPod.

Customer Review: Great Sound, Function and Value
Summary: 5 Stars

I got this for my wife at Christmas and, like many of you, I did a considerable amount of research and reading of reviews. I was convinced this was the best product for the price and after several months of use I'm very impressed with this product.

I was looking to replace our kitchen CD/Tape/Radio player and my wife listens to NPR quite a bit so I needed to at least have a FM radio in the unit. Right away the very expensive Bose unit was not an option. The IM600 has a great footprint for the kitchen, sound is fantastic, FM radio reception is great, and the iPod fits perfectly - I'm very very happy with this purchase. Bonus - I didn't buy it for the cordless power option, but that has turned out to be very handy for moving the unit to any spot in the house when the kitchen gets too noisy.

I rarely write reviews, but I'm that impressed with the sound, function, and value of this product, I felt compelled to share my story.
