Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Altec Lansing BXR1221 2.1 Speaker System (Black)Customer Review: BX1221+MBS-100+iPod Touch+Bluetooth=Awesome Stereo System Summary: 5 Stars
I was a little hesitant to buy this mini Altec Lansing system at first. I bought it for roughly $25 at Walmart. I was initially going to look it up online first but being the semi-impulsive shopper that I am, I bought it. Took it home. Unwrapped and setup was simple enough.
I bought this system for another purpose which i'll explain now. Earlier in the day I bought a Bluetooth speaker at Best Buy (the MBS-100 Sony Ericsson Bluetooth speaker--$39.99). That little Bluetooth speaker has a Line In/Line Out port which made me jump to the conclusion that I could connect it with another stereo system. Voila! It can. To put it plainly, you can create a Bluetooth Stereo System with the MBS-100+BX1221. So that is why I bought this little stereo system. Only one problem: The Line In/Line Out port on the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Speaker has a tiny space which can be used. The speaker (green) jack on the Altec Lansing system is a bit "Chubby." It wouldn't fit and I suggest not forcing it. So I bought a little kit from Walmart (the IU335K Scosche adapTOUR--$12) which has a little audio extension (the so-called iPhone Adapter). It fits and works perfectly!! So, I have this speaker system, Altec Lansing, plugged into the Sony Ericsson Bluetooth Speaker with the 'iPhone Adapter' from the Scosche kit. Since I have a 2nd Generation iPod Touch with the iPhone OS 3.0 software installed, I can stream music wirelessly through the built in Bluetooth. It works almost flawlessly and the sound is fantastic!
My only gripe with the Altec Lansing system is the volume control is on the Right Speaker. The iPod Touch doesn't yet have the capability to increase, decrease the volume while using Bluetooth. That isn't the problem of Altec Lansing of course. To me, what they lack in features and size completely makes up with sound quality! The Bluetooth isn't limited to the iPod Touch. I don't have any other Bluetooth equipment other than my MacBook Pro which pairs with the Sony Ericsson Speakers without a huss. It can allegedly connect with just about any Bluetooth Device. Overall I spent about $76 on everything needed. Try finding a decent Bluetooth Stereo System for that price!
Of course you can use it for other purposes than what I just described above. This is my two cents. I am greatly satisfied with the Altec Lansing speaker system!!
