I spent more than anyone should on one of the hand-held repair units and was thought I was totally let down with CD repair kits because those were all I had seen. I heard from a friend to check out this Alera repair unit and he pretty much saved me hundred of dollars by getting this and not new CDs.
It's fully automatic so you don't need to worry about messing up by doing it yourself. It also comes with everything you need to repair up to 20 discs (running once per disc). Replacement kits are cheap, and this thing works so well I'd reccommend it to anyone who needs to repair scratched discs of any type (CD and DVD).

We ordered this because we have two boys 4 and 2 years old who love to "operate the DVD player" They scratch most of their movies and then they skip or stall and start over. Well not anymore... My husband opened this last night, read the instructions and returned several DVDs to brand new quality right after one pass. Not sure if its possible, but the contrast and clarity of the picture actually looked better.
I cant recommend this product enough. If you only save 2 DVDs you have probably made your money back. If you have kids that dont respect their DVDs, this is for you!

I read mixed reviews about this kit. But, after reading CNet's expert reviews, it seemed the way to go for my disc repair solution. Wow, was I glad I bought this kit! It cleans, repairs both small (minor) and big (major) scratches. It's great! The only drawback to the kit is that after a few repairs, resin from the repair solution ends up getting left on the disc (which causes the disc to be unreadable). But, they give you a special cloth to use to get rid of the resin and your discs are repaired as good as new. I highly recommend this to anyone who needs discs repaired. I have tried several different mechanisms and kits that claim to repair CD's and DVD's. This is the only one that seems to work, and it works every time. You have to run it on a scratched CD a few times, but eventually it will fix it. Certainly, some discs can be damaged beyond repair, but if you want to fix discs that are simply scratched, get this. It may seem costly, but I spent more on the collection of useless "repair" kits over the years that do nothing (or worse, damage the disc more).Customer Review: Can't say enough about this item

I had some game, DVD and CD discs that all were skipping or unusable. In the span of about 35 minutes, I had them all working just fine. this unit does exactly as it advertises. The only thing you need to learn (other than how to set it up and change the discs) is how to recognize just how much repair a disc needs. You can "repair" or "polish" or just "clean" depending on what repair discs and solutions you use. Anyway, it just plain does its job nicely which is all you can ask.
