I ordered this because of the special price and also because I had an AT&T answering machine (without the phone) so I thought it would be easy for me to use. This answering machine is actually easier than my old one. A voice instructs you on how to set it up and use it. The buttons are very straightforward. I read another review which criticized the sound quality and I wonder if that person got a defective phone. Mine works well and I have no problem with the volume (there is a button on the answering machine console to turn the volume up or down). The cordless phone also works well. I think this is a real bargain.

The built-in answering machine features tapeless digital technology and records up to 15 minutes of messages. Those who go out of town for more than a few days may be frustrated by this limitation. The answering system compensates for this shortcoming with three mailboxes, call screening/intercept, remote access so you can check messages from any phone, and time-date stamp.The phone features a 10-number memory for frequently dialed friends, a page/handset locator, and is headset and hearing aid compatible. Perhaps the nicest feature is that the ringer is programmable, letting you customize the sound. The phone is backed by a one-year warranty.
