Customer Review: A Simple & Reliable Telephone
Summary: 5 Stars

The troubles with cell phones not working after the terrorist attacks in 2001 and the power blackout in 2003 made clear the advantage of a corded land-line telephone in emergencies. There have also been repeated problems with expensive combination telephone/answering machines where one stops working so the whole thing has to be replaced. The frequent and annoying static on various cordless telephones was the last straw so I ordered this telephone over four years ago and have really enjoyed using it.

The backlit dial pad is nice and the easy access to controls for ring and handset volume is great. I don't use the memory dial or emergency buttons but they could be useful if someone has trouble dialing numbers or uses a calling card for long distance. You don't need any instructions to use the basic features, just plug it in, lift off the base and dial, which is a nice change from fancy electronics that take an hour to set up. The handset itself is well-balanced and feels substantial in the hand without being too heavy. The buttons have the right amount of "give".

Overall, this is a nice little telephone, simple and reliable.

A great accessory is this little thing-a-ma-jig that keeps the cord from getting tangled: AT&T 91078 Cord Detangler - 3 Pack (Clear)

Customer Review: The most perfect corded telephone is now discontinued
Summary: 5 Stars

Imitated poorly by Conair and Bell South, among others, the classic AT&T 210 Trimline is the follow-on to the original pre-divestiture Trimline telephones. Once available in white, bisque/ivory, a greenish color, and black, it's now discontinued. Every few years the manufacturer of the 210 changes. My first 210s are made by Philips. The newer ones are manufactured by some company in China called "Advanced American Telephones." The quality is the same. I have attempted to use the Conair and Bell South knock-offs and none of them have the solid feel and sound quality of the AT&T models. When we used to live nearby a radio transmitter only the 210 Trimlines could filter out the interference.

Notable features include a weighted base and the current models being sold have a handy cord winder in the base to shorten a long modular line. The handset cord is the AT&T Tuffcord style so it does not kink, sag, and by some magical technology does not get dirty like the cheaper knock-offs. Features that nobody needs on a phone like this include memory redial and wall mounting.

Sadly this product has been discontinued. I have always wanted a red "hotline" colored 210 but they don't exist exept in the form of the old rotary-dial and transformer-powered touch-tone Trimlines installed by Bell before divestiture.

Customer Review: Very nice phone, especially for the price
Summary: 5 Stars

It's a simple phone, solidly built, good sound volume and clarity, comfortable to hold between ear and shoulder, and a very useful(albeit a bit dim since it's line powered) backlit keypad. It does have a couple memory locations to store phone numbers, but I'm used to cordless phones with LCD that I can see the number being dialed, so I don't use the memories here...

I'd like to see the Mute feature work a bit differently. I'd make it a sliding switch, like the ringer and Tone/Pulse control, instead of a button. When you press the button to engage the Mute function, the earpiece gives a short beep to confirm. Press another time it gives a longer beep as the microphone is turned back on. But other than those beeps there's no visual confirmation that shows what the current mute status is, and you can't hear the beep really well, while you have the phone in your hand and pressing the button. So either a slider control, or make the backlight flashing intermittently to show the user that the phone's been muted, is what I'd suggest to the designer/engineer...

Customer Review: Better than I expected...
Summary: 5 Stars

Based on the reviews of some ppl saying this phone is cheaply constructed, I have to disagree. I found this phone to be heftier than I would have thought (solid durable plastic). What do you expect from a phone that costs about $10.00. You can't expect to get the old ATT trimline phones from 25 yrs ago that lasts a lifetime.

I bought this over a month ago and haven't had any problems. It's fine for the bedroom and for use as a back up if the power goes out and the cordless phones don't work. The numbers light up and you don't need to plug it in an AC outlet. It gets its power right from the wall outlet phone jack.

The volume control is a great feature for anyone that's hard of hearing. It can get pretty loud on the high volume setting.

For $10, buying this phone was a no-brainer. The only drawback I found was that the cord from the phone to the base was a little short. I had a longer cord laying around from an old phone and just used that.

Customer Review: Handy For When The Power Goes Out - Highly Recommended
Summary: 5 Stars

The AT&T Trimeline is a very basic corded phone that works when the power goes out. We bought three of these (one for our house, shop, and my mother's house) to use mostly as backup for when our various cordless phones become unusable in during power outages (more frequent than I like in our area).

We have these connected to line splitters (like Belkin RJ11 Plug/2-RJ11 Jack Modular T Adapter) and they work just fine. These also have physical switches to adjust the ringer volume and phone volume which, although limited, does give us some control. It is also handy that the keypad is "backlit" and draws power directly from the phone line, allowing you to see the numbers in the dark.

While these phones do have the ability to store numbers and even speed-dial, we have not set them up to do it.

Highly Recommended!
