Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Addonics ADSAIDE SATA to IDE-ATAPI ConverterCustomer Review: Works great on HD, Not so much for DVD Summary: 5 Stars
I received the adapter intending to use it on a SATA internal DVD writer. XP finds the drive and seems to be ready to go to work. However, after loading a DVD for play much less for read/write, I found the drive disappeared and was no longer available to the system at all. I kept the adapter and installed it on a SATA HDD in the PC and it works great. I needed the adapter since I had run out of SATA connectors on the MB. It was advertised as working with ATAPI hardware too. Didn't deliver in that capacity.
Customer Review: Perfect for using SATA on older machines Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this because I have an older standalone machine that I just use for secondary storage for my Norton Ghost images. I had some spare WD 640G Sata drives laying around but no IDE drives larger than the one I had in there.
I hooked this up (plugs right into the back of your Sata drive) and set the master/slave jumper.
The machine instantly recognized the drive as an ATA 133 EIDE drive.
What could be simpler!
It does exactly what it says.
Customer Review: Replaced IDE system drive w/SATA drive Summary: 5 Stars
Excellent product! When my IDE drive started giving me trouble, I could not readily find a large enough IDE drive to replace it. Instead I bought a Seagate SATA drive and this adapter. The Seagate software cloned my current drive to the new one, I removed the older drive, and Bingo, I'm now booting on my new SATA drive. The fact that you don't need new drivers to use this (or switch motherboards to get SATA support) makes that process MUCH simpler than it could be. Highly recommended!
Customer Review: In valuable for SATA optical drives and Vista Summary: 5 Stars
There were two reasons I bought this product. First, I need the extra SATA port taken by my Blu-Ray optical drive. Second, Vista as it currently ships crashes and won't even boot or install if you have a SATA optical drive and 3GB or more of RAM ... both of which I do. Everytime I have to reinstall VISTA (and I do this quite a bit), I have to open the case and unplug the blu-ray drive. A PAIN when you do so many reinstalls as I do.
Customer Review: Excellent. Summary: 5 Stars
Very pleased with the straight forward usefulness of this adapter.
Its cheap, gave me access to my massive storage drive with no SATA ports available and is exceptionally easy to install.
One thing that bothers me about it is the IDE interface portion, the pins feel a bit...flimsy, I suppose. Would rather it be in some sort of protective housing to protect the pins a bit.
