If you're trying to decide which of the many IDE to SATA converters to purchase, I would strongly suggest this one. If you have a "W series" eMachines (mine is an W5233), the angled design of this adapter will work best for your application (If you use a straight-type adapter, you won't be able to close the access panel on your computer).
In my application, I am connecting an IDE HDD as a second drive.
The instructions included with the kit tend to lack certain details. A "Y" cable is included with the converter. Attach the small connector of the cable to the converter board (per instructions), but also connect the large connector to the HDD (not mentioned in the instructions). The small connector only powers the adapter board. It took some trial and error before figuring out that the jumper on my HDD (Western Digital WD1600 AAJB) didn't need to be set to "master" or "slave" , but had to be totally removed. Once this was done, and an SATA cable was connected from the HDD to SATA2 on the motherboard, my computer booted-up with no lag or delay. Be sure to check if the kit you're purchasing includes an SATA cable to connect your HDD to the motherboard (my kit did not have one).
This product has worked flawlessly for me and I highly recommend it!
