I have the old version of this device (no USB power). Mine also makes that whining sound, but rest assured, IT IS NOT GOING TO BREAK. I have been using it constantly for at least 2 years now and have put it through far more abuse that I thought it could take, but it just keeps going....and going....and going....Customer Review: Works, what else can I say

This thing charges my Lenovo T61 and Nokia n900 at the same time with no problems.
Not hearing any fan noise as mentioned by others.
So far so good.

Works very well with any small electrical item. There is a very slight fan noise, but I can only hear it when the car is off. Much cheaper than buying every car charger I need, just take the wall charger!
