Customer Review: BEWARE! Not suitable for many modern computers.

You have to do your homework and read the fine print on these. For example, 750 sounds like a big number, but that's the volt/amps and not the wattage, which is the number quoted on power supplies. The real problem is the Active PFC (Power Factor Correction) power supplies which have been required since July 2007. You can read about this in the FAQs on the APC website. As I understand it, the Back-UPS and Smart-UPS SC, are not true, pure sine wave UPS, and are not suitable for any Active PFC computer power supply rated 500W or more. This would include many Core i7 and older serious gaming machines. These bigger modern power supplies require true, pure sine wave UPS's like the Smart-UPS, Smart-UPS XL and Smart-UPS RT, according to the informative but confusing (to me) PDF that I downloaded from APC, Application Note #147. Of course, you need to calculate the correct load of your equipment to determine which model is suitable for you.
I have several of these UPS's and they have served me well with my older smaller PCs, but they are not suitable for my new machines. They cut out and shut down my Dell XPS 435T with a 475W power supply. I should have done my homework and upgraded my UPS instead of using the one I already had.
I still rate it 5 stars, because it does what it is supposed to do very well, if you choose the correct model for your equipment.

For 2-3 months, my husband was telling me that we needed to get a new APC Uninterruptable Power Supply because we were in the process of upgrading his motherboard, chip, hard drive, etc.. In OfficeMax and Bestbuy, I noticed the APC BE750 in both of these stores (at the time) was going for $99. When I seen the deal on Amazon for $69, I instantly bought it.
In my household each of our computers has an APC and I would not dream of looking at any other power supply. From our past experience with APC, I knew that these power supplies are very reliable, easy to use and we have never had any problems whatsoever with them. When we have had "power dip", which do not happen often, these APC's instantly "kick in."
I ordered the APC BE750 on a Wednesday and it was on my door step the following Monday - 6 days and I only used the SUPER SAVER shipping way and look how quickly it came.
If I need another power supply, I will be looking at APC once again.

This UPS arrived yesterday. I unpacked it and read the simple instructions which can be boiled down to "unpack unit, plug wire into battery (shipped disconnected), plug unit into wall and use with preferred devices." My unit worked perfectly out of the box and was easy to set up. I installed the DVD software quickly which allows many custom setup options for voltage trip (high/low), power time before shutdown, etc. I'm new to these products, but it was simple. Coincidentally I had a power blip within 3 hours of installing it. My PC power remained on and I later was able to view historical data and events that the unit automatically logged. It showed the nature of interruption (low voltage) and the duration, along with remaining battery life. This whole experience has been exactly as I hoped - easy to set up, nice features and information, and it works. So far, so good, I love it.Customer Review: Another Winner From APC

Easy setup & reliable performance is what I look for in a UPS & this model has both. Had this out of the box and set up in under ten minutes. The Master Control feature is a very nice addition.
I purchased this to replace an aging APC CS-350 which after over 7 years of service needs a new battery and will be relegated to another lesee power hungry pc than my present workstation.
I see some reviews lamenting the "Lack" of features but one has to do some research & be realistic about what you are purchasing before you pull the trigger. This model is great for a single loaded workstation PC as the monitoring function is for a single pc only. There are other more expensive solutions that will allow multiple pc's to monitor the UPS status but the price is much higher.
For a single PC with a number of peripherals this unit works great.

Tampa, Florida has one of the highest lightning strike frequencies n the world. I have had one of these APC BE750G UPS units protecting my wife's computer system for some time and it has functioned very well. I recently replaced my old computer and bought an additional BE750G for my system. About two days after setting it all up, another afternoon thunderstorm ripped through Tampa. We lost power two or three times over 10-15 minutes, with the power intermittently flickering on and off. Both systems functioned perfectly, maintaining consistent power during the system drop-outs.
This unit has a unique feature, a master outlet that senses the on/off condition of the computer. When it senses the computer is not drawing power, three of the protected outlets also shut down for power saving. It works great.
I highly recommend this product.
