I live in Florida, which has more than its share of power events, so a UPS is absolutely necessary. Although the APC Back-UPS is heavy because of the battery, it has a good number of outlets well spaced and with the PowerChute software, lets me know when it has intervened and I can hear it clicking on and off when we get our power glitches. I can even be online in a storm and not have to worry. APC has a great product and they stand behind it with a great warranty.Customer Review: Super easy!

I had a tech come out and do a routine cleanup of my PC and he strongly recommended the APC Back-UPS. The best price was on Amazon. It has plenty of outlets for both battery and just surge protection. It didn't take more than 15 minutes to set up including the software and it works perfectly. I feel much safer having this protection because I leave my PC on all the time. I believe it also smooths out the voltage supplied to your PC for better performance.Customer Review: Well worth the price for the peace of mind

I bought this battery back-up because I had previously had a disk issue on my TiVo. I have this hooked up with my TiVo HD and PS3 running on backup and other A/V components plugged into the surge protected outlets. I tried pulling the plug out of the wall and the backed up devices didn't notice or care. For a reasonable price I believe I am protected from power spikes and fluctuations and brief power failures. Product is working well. I replaced an older APC 550VA that also worked fine but often clicked very loud for days on end for no apparent reason. I had 3 of the old ones and they all clicked at the same times so I think they respond to some power level drop/spike. However, I think the ridiculously loud clicking noise in the old ones was a design flaw. This one does not click at all and solved that issue.Customer Review: APC as easy as ABC

I'm not sure how you rate a back-up power supply. My guess is that you need a power failure to know if you made a wise choice and it was a good investment. As this fortunately hasn't happened to me all I can say is the specs for the unit are good and the set up requires opening the back panel and connecting a lead to the sealed battery. There is ample signage and stickers to make this almost idiot proof.
