First off, this won't be very useful if you're planning to use it for a TV or larger monitor along with a PC. This size UPS is best for small equipment that you need clean, conditioned, reliable power at all times. I bought this one recently for my 1TB NAS + wireless router, and that's it. This really is cheap insurance as compared to data loss that could happen with a brown out or worse. Again, I can't stress enough that if you're looking for a UPS for your tower PC & monitor along with a printer/scanner or HDTV & gaming console, have a look at a 900VA at the least.Customer Review: APC UPS ES 8 550VA

Really not much to say. Its pretty simple plug and use type hardware. I like the smaller size than the previous one I had. I was tired of purchasing replacement batteries for my older larger unit. I like this smaller unit. My previous unit was an APC as well. I'm not using the software since Windows & recognized the unit when I plugged the USB cable in. I've liked the APC brand since day one. I make most of the hardware purchasing decisions at my office and we have APC server grade UPSs on our servers. Ease of use with those as well.Customer Review: Excellent

This is an excellent product and I highly recommend it. We have four in use in our home: one on each of our two computer systems, one on our entertainment system and one on our pellet stove. When we have power flucations from high desert winds this is a life saver for our electronics. I especially like it for our stove because its little brain gets scrambled when the power flickers on and off. It takes a while to get it reset and you get cold while you wait. The APC Back-UPS ES 550 is extremely easy to use, reliable and catches even the tiniest of power glitches. The PowerChute software is easy to install and keeps track of all power events that occurred and how long the device was running in power backup mode. So far, we have had several short power interruptions and the computer never experienced a problem.
The battery is user replaceable and easily obtained, so the APC Back-UPS ES 550 should server you well for years to come. I recommend this product.

I had two old UPS units that both died last month so I had to get a replacement. I searched for a recharging UPS with enough power to support my desktop computer, monitor and a few other items. I chose this one based on good reviews and I'm very happy with it. You can use the USB connection to your computer so you can monitor the status of power available, etc. Easy set up, great price, and reliable back up power - just be sure you size it for your needs. (I didn't plug in my printer which would drain it too quickly.)
