Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of APC BE550G Back-UPS ES 8 Outlet 550VA 120VCustomer Review: Great product! Summary: 5 Stars
I ordered this for my new computer, and we had a power flicker just a few hours after I set it up! It worked perfectly. There is software included that will let you check the status of the battery and tell the unit what to do if it loses power (such as turn off the computer). Very useful!
Two things to note:
1) Make sure you connect the battery! There's a note on it to do this, but just in case you get in an unwrapping frenzy, you have to turn it over and slide the cover off in order to do that.
2) Only 4 of the outlets are powered by the battery- the other 4 are JUST surge protection. So if you want more than 4 items plugged into the battery, you may want to upgrade to a different model! It works perfectly for me though!
Customer Review: Reliable UPS For Home and Office! - Recommended! Summary: 5 Stars
We have 5 "APC Back-UPS ES 8 Outlet 550VA 120V" units (2 at home and 3 in our shop) because our area is afflicted with "brown outs" and surges all year 'round. Our power is so bad that we have gone through 2 PCs, 3 printers, 3 microwaves, 1 oven, and several digital clocks over the past 5 years.
Prior to getting these APC UPS units, we only had one UPS by a different company and that blew out within a year of moving in (taking a PC with it).
The unit has 8 outlets (4 UPS and 4 surge protected), including 2 larger spaced "transformer" outlets.
We really like the APC units and have much better peace of mind when the power flickers and our PCs stay on.
Highly recommended!
Customer Review: Does what it is meant to Summary: 5 Stars
Installation was a breeze - just connected it to my Windows 7 PC and it recognized it right away. Didn't even have to install the software that came with it. Just tweaked the built-in power management settings in Windows to make the PC hibernate in case of power loss. I wanted to buy something that has just enough power to shut my machine down cleanly in case of a power failure - the selection wizard on the APC website was great and based on my configuration, it suggested this unit which gives the PC about 6 minutes to shut down cleanly. I connected it, turned everything on, configured my power management settings and then pulled the power plug off the wall - sure enough, within 2 minutes everything was cleanly shut down.
Customer Review: Works seamlessly with XP Summary: 5 Stars
The APC website states this unit will supply power for approximately 13 minutes at 50% draw and approximately 3 minutes at 100%. I plugged it in via the supplied USB and Windows immediately recognized the UPS. It was configurable in the control panel power options - the Powerchute software was not even necessary. I installed it anyway, however, since I was used to using it in business settings (this one is for my home). The software automatically disables the Windows controls and installs a very easy to use application with more options than windows. All in all, a great little UPS. I got this one after returning a Cyberpower unit which was a piece of junk (I fell for the cheaper price but you get what you pay for!)
Customer Review: Great / Long Battery Backup Summary: 5 Stars
I would highly recommend this item if you have a desktop and need a battery backup. This is a big improvement over my last battery backup. I tend to have many large programs open that require time to shut down. This battery backup has a lot of battery time - which we need as we lose power often in my house. If power is out or flickering for a few minutes, I can keep working. If it is going to stay off I have quite a long time - 10-15 min of battery time with all the items i have plugged into the backup - to shut everything down. I would definitely buy again. This item also works well as a surge protector. I will be working and it will flash to battery backup and back to regular electricity.
