Customer Review: Perfect solution for power "blips"

I live in South Florida and we sometimes have power "blips" (particularly in the summer when all the air conditioners are running) that reset anything running that is "resetable." I purchased two of these when they were on sale locally and have been very happy with them.
I sometimes back-up Blue-ray discs onto an external hard drive and the process can take two or three days. A short power stoppage, even a brief "blip," can cause the entire process to shut down and have to start all over again....very frustrating! These devices prevent that from happening.
Don't expect to run your PC (or anything else really) for a long period of time on them, but they will negate the impact of short power interruptions. They will also, of course, work on digital clocks that flash and have to be reset every time these outages occur and they also work well on satellite boxes that can lose their content during these outages and subsequently have to re-load all of the channel information. The software it comes with loads easily and will give you a diary of what events have occurred while your PC has been running.
The unit itself appears to be solidly built. I highly recommend it.

I have had this device for several months now. I originally had it in an old dorm where the power voltage fluctuates and we lose power several times in a year. This unit is sufficient for ONE mid range desktop computer. It peaks out at 330 Watts so it will NOT be good enough for most gaming desktops. My entry level Dell Power Edge T110 runs on this UPS. The power has gone out twice and it kicks in immediately. It connects via RJ45 to USB to your computer. The computer sees it as a battery and you can set settings to have the computer automatically shut off when the battery gets to a certain point. I have mine turn off at 40%. A UPS like this is NOT designed to keep your computer on for a long time. Instead, it is designed to hold your computer up for 10-15 minutes so you can save your work and shut down (unless your using this for a laptop). Bottom line - APC makes good stuff. Also I should mention is has protection for a phone line as well but not Ethernet. And as with any UPS, only half of the outlets are battery backed and the other half are just surge protection and power filtering.Customer Review: Problem solved

One of our two Panasonic DVR's (DMR-E85H) would routinely "freeze" and not reinitialize whenever AC power was restored following a utility power "glitch" or outage. In most cases, the problem could be resolved by unplugging the unit from the AC power for a period of eight to ten hours, at which time it would then resume normal operation. There were times, however, that it required more extensive and "intrusive" interventions to "bring it back to life". Although not specifically intended for use on home entertainment systems, the APC 120VAC, 330W, 8 outlet UPS/surge protector works great in this application and has completely eliminated the previously recurring problem. I now have not only the troublesome DVR plugged into the UPS but the second DVR and several other components as well. This eliminates the need to reset the date and time on components which do not have their own battery backed up memory each time that there is a power "glitch". APC's technical sales support was very responsive and helpful in answering my questions prior to purchasing their UPS. I highly recommend this product.Customer Review: Not Just for Computers

I got one of these for my computer and my printer / fax / copier / scanner. I also plugged in my satellite box and a small clock (to avoid the flashing 12:00). The other night the power went out for 2 and 1/2 hours. I didn't want to miss the end of the baseball game (Go Phillies!) so I unplugged the computer and plugged in my TV until the end of the game. I didn't know how long the battery would last so I unplugged the TV and plugged in a lamp with a energy efficient bulb and a small fan - that I used part of the time because it was stuffy in the house. After the first hour several neighbors came over and asked me how I had power and I happily showed them the UPS. One neighbor admitted calling the utility company to complain that I had power and she didn't.
The UPS ran for the entire outage. I had never expected it to run that long and I am very happy with it. I am glad that I didn't miss the rest of the game and glad I didn't have to spend the entire evening sitting in the dark.

For years, friends knowledgeable about computers had advised me to get a battery backup, but having weathered several power outages with little consequence, I thought it an unnecessary expense. Then came the outage that virtually destroyed my machine and its functionality. With the advice of a technician whom I trusted and others whose advice has been sound, I purchased the APC Back-UPS ES 8. Now I am weathering additional outages as almost non events. Following the instructions and setting up the system was quite simple. The instructions and precautions were precise and complete. To date, the unit has worked exactly like it should. I first thought that I might need more output for my computer, but its power has been more than adequate. I highly recommend the APC brand, for based upon my experience, it has established a well-deserved reputation. By the way, the price of this unit was far less than the expense to have my computer put back into proper operation.
