Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of APC BACK-UPS RS BR1500LCD 1500VA/865W UPS System

Customer Review: expensive, but probably worth it
Summary: 5 Stars

We bought this UPS to protect a new server. It comes with the same APC software that has been around for a few years. The software is easy to use and makes it a breeze to configure the UPS (Admittedly, configuration is an optional step, but I recommend taking the 5 minutes to install the software and check it out. If you don't like it, you can always uninstall the software. The UPS will still work just fine.).
The LED displays are refreshingly complete and understandable.
The bottom line on a UPS is that it fills the power gap for under or over voltage conditions. We have not had any major failures in the month since we installed this unit, but on the other hand, we have not had any false-positives either ... (That was a problem with units from about 10 years ago.)
This is a fairly expensive UPS. It would be overkill to put this on a home computer or simple workstation...But for a server or switch or something that has specific voltage limits, this seems to be a good choice.

Customer Review: Great - bought another

My Tripp Lite Omni 1000 recently failed after a little over two years so I bought this UPS. So far it works great. The display is really nice. You can program the LCD display to stay on all the time (which is what I did) otherwise it will go off (to save power I think). I get an estimated run time of about 18-20 minutes with about a 25% load (250 watts running three computers (no monitors) and a couple of Ethernet switches). Will post a photo soon and will update this review if anything significant changes my review.

Battery:
* This unit uses APCRBC109 replacement batteries

UPDATE 2008-07-01: Really liking this UPS. So far it's my favorite (and most expensive) off all the UPS's I've ever bought. No problems.

UPDATE 2010-09-23: My original unit is still working great, making sure my servers are dafe and powered up. I just received another unit that I purchased for my software development system.

Customer Review: Rock solid UPS
Summary: 5 Stars

Beyond impressed with the APC Backup-UPS. The LCD display is well worth getting since allows real-time monitoring of UPS state.

I turned off the power and ran the UPS for 15 minutes and noise level is well within reason. After turning power back on UPS recharged in little over one hour from 40% to 100%.

UPS also comes with PowerChute software it maybe 3 years old but has all you need. This APC uses personal version and support old windows OSs, XP, Vista, and Mac OSX 10.3.9 thru 10,4.9. Expect them to release a WIN7 version soon also.

I have the following connected (32" LCD HDTV, Dell E510 Dual Core, DSL Modem, External HDD, 5.1 speaker, and running a game use 80% CPU power). That is 260 watts of the 865 watts possible. We even connected friends new quadcore with new DX11 video card and UPS had power to spare.

If you have a high end PC or Mac it is well worth getting this UPS.

Summary: 5 Stars

I experienced a power outage within the first month after purchasing the unit. The power went off and on a couple times before going off completely for around 3 hours. It kept power to my DSL modem and router (my desktop computer was off) and also my satellite receiver and TV. It could have powered everything except my TV for over 4 hours. With the TV on it was a little over a half hour. We turned the TV on periodically to check the progress of a baseball game.

The thing I like best is it kept surges from entering my equipment when the power went off and back on a couple times before going off completely.

It certainly has the power to allow normal shutdown of my computer without loss of data if the occasion arises.

I only wish I had been using it over the past few years, since we have had many power outages and surges in my neighborhood. I believe those caused my A/V receiver to fail.

Customer Review: Lovin' this back-up!
Summary: 5 Stars

I live in a rural area of eastern Colorado where snow, thunderstorms and wind can knock our power out from seconds to hours on a pretty regular basis. As a photographer and graphic designer I spend a lot of time on my 24" iMac. The power outages are not only hard on the computer and external drives but my nerves as well. The power always seems to go out when I've forgotten to save a file that I've been working on for hours. I'm sure that I have over sized for my system with this back-up but it's pretty cheap insurance. I have another APC this size on my corn-burner stove as well. I'm sure that they were not designed or recommended for that, but it seems to work fine. I will be getting another soon for the T.V. and satellite system. My wife will be getting one for her computer at work as well.

If you haven't gathered, we love our APC.
