I had a few problems getting it installed on a modern Windows XP box. It took three tries, including a complete uninstall, but once installed and enabled the improvement in my Blender3D capabilities (as well as Google Earth) is wonderful and effortless.
I also installed it on Ubuntu Linux and am equally happy. Highly recommended!
Note: I didn't need the tech support of the SE version, but I'm a very experienced programmer. If your time is valuable, pay the extra $25 just in case.

Forget using the keyboard to navigate 3D space--this tool is too handy for words. Very short learning curve--takes about 4 hours...then it's like an extension of your hand.
INSTALLATION NOTE: This unit is VERY sensitive to static electricity. Make sure your computer is well-grounded before installing. I found this out the hard way. If you have additional problems with operation, make sure your anti-virus program is cooperating with it (this especially applies to BitDefender users).

The SpaceNavigator SE is just what you need to navigate 3D space in your 3D program. I use Poser Pro 2010, Vue Infinite & PS CS5(check their web for compatable programs, however it doesn't work with the 2d based Anime Studio). After you become aquainted with the eye/hand skills necessary to use it (which take an hour or two with the included puzzles & guides) you will wonder how you lived without it!! It works very well with the Bella keyboard & Wacom tablet I use. Get one you'll love it!!Customer Review: Outstanding 3D control (where supported)!

I was skeptical of this device at first, and probably did not need the so-called Standard Edition (but the price was acceptable either way).
I am a Mac user, and since 3DConnexion only released Mac Drivers for the SpaceNavigator a few months ago, the application support is rather sparse, but growing.
It works great in those apps that are currently supported, though support varies from app to app, and is dependent on how the application developer chose to use it.

This is an amazing product -- we use it to create camera effects in 3D spaces for live shows and recordings in the virtual world environment of Second Life.
One you try it, you will never be able to do frame capture work with just the normal mouse. But it's not a replacement for your mouse -- I use my mouse on the right, and the SpaceNavigator on my left (admittedly sometimes with both hands just for a bit of extra control and concentration).
