Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator SE (Standard Edition) 3D Navigation Device USB ( 3DX-700028 )

Customer Review: Valuable Input Device
Summary: 5 Stars

I have used this SpaceNavigator SE for a few months now on 3D modelling programs such as Inventor 9 and Solidworks 2008. I find it very helpful, although I wish it had more than two buttons. It does take a while to become accustomed to manipulating it, but it is well worth it.

I did find that the rubber on the bottom does not stick well to my desk's surface so I grabbed some spare silicone rubber sheet (McMaster-Carr part no. 86045K411) and trimmed it to match the bottom. It is really grippy. The fit and finish is very nice. The software is good and has enough adjustments to satisfy a picky user like myself. I wish more applications supported it though.

I am very happy I spent the money on it and would buy it again if I had to. It is also fun to watch coworkers use if for the first time as they fumble around. Most can't keep a solid model on the screen for very long :)

Customer Review: A Must Have for CAD Designers
Summary: 5 Stars

I you are a CAD designer & have not tried any of the 3Dconnexion products...what are you waiting for. I migrated from a SpaceBall 4000 to the SpaceNagigator & love it. I opted for the SpaceNavigator because I didn't use the bottons on my SpaceBall, so why spend the extra money for features I wouldn't use. The SpaceNavigator handles a little differently than the SpaceBall, but I got used to it pretty quickly. If you want to increase productivity & flexibility while designing you need a 3D mouse. They take a bit to get used to, but you can adjust the sensitivity of the puck until you get used to it & then gradually increase it until it fits your style.

The SpaceNavigator is very heavy & stays put during use. I also like the small footprint so it gives me more room on my desk top. What more can I say, except this is a must have for every CAD designer.

Customer Review: Don't know how I worked w/o it...
Summary: 5 Stars

This device is a must have for anyone working extensively with 3D models. It allows you to control the model in ways you just can't do with the keyboard and standard mouse clicks. I was initially worried about the ergonomics, however there are days that I use it for 8+ hours a day and don't have any issues with my hand getting tired etc. I was intially using the older ball style 3D mouse and this is a big step-up in improvement. The new joystick style controller provides just the right amount of resistance and feedback to give you a positive "feel" for controlling the model. I just can't say enough positive things about this device other than you have to try it and use it to really understand what you've been missing.

Customer Review: WoW, lots more than I expected!
Summary: 5 Stars

The Space Navigator is well built and sturdy. It does everything I anticipated and more.
I mainly use it as a camera in a SL and it is a Machinama dream camera controller.
I gave it three stars and not five because of the ease of use. Extremely difficult to learn to control,
but with practice I am getting really good results. The documentation with the controller was ok,
but sketchy. It works with so many apps, and I wish I still had the trial for 3DSMAX to try it on.
Overall it's well worth the five star overall and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.. Still awesome, and
the navigation hasn't needed reconfiguring after two months of use. Another great product!

Customer Review: A must-have for 3d drafting
Summary: 5 Stars

I won this at a seminar, and didn't know about it at the time. I could not go without this device now. I've been doing 3d drafting for 4 years and there is no question that it saves time. It makes it much, much easier to manipulate parts while drafting. It is a heavy, solidly built piece that has held up well. I use mine with Inventor and Autocad, can't comment on other programs.

Just be careful carrying this in your laptop bag in airport security- the TSA thought mine was a bomb or something...
