Customer Review: Wonderfully versatile device! (when used with RBC9 driver)
Summary: 5 Stars

This device is well built. It is heavy to ensure that it does not slide around. It has nice blue lights, although a bit too bright. It has a very smooth 6-axis mechanism, that can be a bit too sensitive. With the manufacturer supplied drivers, it can only be used with about 100 applications; most that the average use will never use. As supplied, it rated 2/5.

However, when used with the compact RBC9 driver, it can be infinitely adjusted for use with nearly all programs. It can be used to bind to multiple keyboard commands, mouse movements, and joystick even. When used with Firefox and extensions such as NextPlease, you can easily navigate long, multiple pages with a mere tilt. Sensitivity is adjustable as well. There is no limit to what you can do. This may be very helpful to those suffering from RSI / carpal tunnel as you can offload work to the opposite hand naturally. Wonderful device!

Customer Review: 3* if using it with the standard drivers, 5* if using open source drivers

3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator PE (Personal Edition) 3D Navigation Device USB ( 3DX-700029 )

Very cool looking device with the blue leds, allows u to switch them off if u find them irritating. Its not goin to be worth it if u r jus using it for google earth. But I found an open source driver written by a talented programmer on the 3dconnexion forums and the $50 price tag was immediately justified. With open source community support for this device, the potential for this peripheral is unlimited. I use it for surfing and gaming on top of the officially supported software. Please make sure to register with the 3dconnxion forums when u install the product. Aiming for the spacepilot or spacetraveller when i can get the cash together.

Customer Review: Even Better Than I Expected
Summary: 5 Stars

The SpaceNavigator works like a charm for navigating 3D space in the two programs I used it for on my MacBook: Google SketchUp and Google Earth. The base of this 3D mouse is a heavy metal so that when you pull up on it, it won't come off the table. Because of this metal, at the security checkpoint in the airport, they took it out of my bag, gave it a funny look, and put it back in. Maybe I should put it in my checked luggage next time.

The software that comes on the CD, or that you can download from their website has a control panel which allows you to configure each of the six axis controls separately for direction and speed. Each program you use can be configured separately as well. I didn't like the defaults, so I changed them for both Google Earth and Google SketchUp.

Customer Review: SpaceNavigator is on my desk and staying grounded
Summary: 5 Stars

Saw the notebook version, this is for my desk. Read the reviews, good information on the product. I use Autodesk Inventor, the software was easy to install, of course I check the box to check for update, sure enough there was an updated software on the website, downloaded and installed. really easy. Started Inventor, software automatically configured for Inventor. For me, I was using it in about 5 minutes. For me the operation was very intuitive.

I just whish I knew about this product sooner, and at the price on Amazon, what are you waiting on. BUY IT already. Orderd on Friday, 3 - 5 day shipping, arrived Monday, fantastic, up and running before lunch.

If you are using a 3D solid modeling program, don't wait, order one today, you will not be dissapointed.

Customer Review: SpaceNavigator PE
Summary: 5 Stars

Easy installation. Operation is smooth. It feels like natural extension of one's body. I used it with Solid Works, eDrawings and Google Earth. Learning curve is very fast.
It has 2 buttons. They feel little small for person with larger hands.
Buttons can be programmed. It takes some tries to get used to it.
For instance, I tried to program right button for pan only. Display pans right/left by sliding controler accordingly. When you slide up/down it does not work. To pan up/down, controler must be pulled up or pushed down.
Overall it is a very neat device that is comfortable to use and it saves the mouse hand from fatique.
It would be nice to have something like that for general Windows applications, notably for pan and zoom.
